was pleasantly surprised by the solidity and heaviness of the box - even heavier and bigger than bank safety boxes. My mother was happy with it.

I think this was a great value at around $13. The box I bought was around 12 X 8 X 4" outside dimensions. The double walls are about 1/4" thick from inside to outside, so you would subtract 1/2" from L X W X H to get the inside dimensions. Pretty much as stated. The metal is about 21 gauge , about 0.034" thick and in between the two walls there is fiberglass insulation -- about 3/16" thick. This includes the top, side walls, and bottom. Mine was nicely coated with gloss tan paint. The two keys in the envelope inside the box operated the latch easily. This box should provide a good measure of protection from fire and it's reasonably secure. Obviously, boxes like this are not safes and someone with tools could manage to open it, but if you need that level of security, get a fireproof safe or rent a safe deposit box at your bank. For what this is intended to be, I think it's a great value and every bit as well made and functional as another one like it I have. The only issue with mine was that one of the corners on the lid was slightly bent outward, but it still closes perfectly well and functionality is not impaired.

I read a few of the reviews before I purchased this product. Some of the reviews were less than stellar. I don't think they were talking about the product I received. I got a box that was heavy duty with a decent lock on it. This box is sturdy, double walled, and seems to have some heft to it. The only thing that would make it better, would be to add a latch. I use this box to safely store my LiPo batteries. I did line it with rubber shelf liner to protect the batteries. I leave the key in the lock so when I need to get into the box, I just unlock it. I put a dab of glue on the key to insure that it does not fall out of the lock. It works great. There are not a lot of products that get 5 stars from me. You won't be sorry when purchasing this product. ED. IT 4/16/18: I outgrew the first box and just placed an order for another. This is a good box and a great value for less than $20

This is a very nice lockbox. I got it to lock my gun (S&W 38, 4-inch barrel) away during an upcoming visit with some of my grandchildren. The gun and holster fit perfectly, with room for bullets, etc. This box is a bit heavy, with thick-walled construction, unlike some of the other steel boxes I've looked at. It has a sturdy handle on one side, a hinge on the opposite side, and as can be seen in the picture in the product description, the lock is on top. The top of the box fits snugly over the bottom, rather than just abutting the bottom, so there are no gaps between the top and bottom when it's closed. I'm thinking you could accidentally spill liquid on it, and the contents of the box would stay dry. The estimated delivery was 6 to 10 days after the order date, but it was delivered directly by Office Depot in less than 24 hours after I ordered it. As a matter of fact, it was delivered before Amazon sent me notification that it had shipped (still indicating the original delivery date estimates). I'm very pleased with this purchase.
