My Go-To For Wall Woes
I don't know how many rolls I have of this stuff. I keep buying it when it's one sale.I have these (in my opinion) ugly "DPI Aqua Tile" wall panels in my bathrooms. You know, the faux tile with the furring strips every 4 feet? They are the bane of my bathroom. When I first got the house, I was at one of the box stores and asked the guy working in the flooring area if there was a way to cover them. He said no. Well, challenge accepted. I made it my mission to prove this stranger wrong. I knew there had to be a way to cover them without having to demo the panels.Enter LLP 2. It's made by different manufacturers, but the LLP 2 part stays the same. I was reading in a forum somewhere that someone used this to cover their faux tile walls and I decided to go for it. I pulled off the furring strips, sanded the glue and applied the LLP 2. Wow! I love this stuff. My ugly "faux tile" walls looked like real walls! The seams are barely visible, but a little joint compound will help if you do run into that problem. (It's in my pic, next to the wall yet to be covered)It's easy to apply. For me to say that means it is either difficult and I am lucky or it really is. I can't assemble anything. It takes me 2 hours to put together something that would take someone else 15 minutes and I was able to use this with no issues. I just precut when its dry (leaving extra, as a rule of thumb) and fill the bathtub with some cool water (just enough to be able to put the liner in) and then I put the liner in completely covering it and then slide the liner out of the tub. I do it pretty quickly as not to over-saturate it and then I apply it horizontally at the BOTTOM of the wall first. (Sorry for the all-caps, but people do it from the top which is incorrect.) It adheres well, but you can still move it around if you need to get it straight, and once dry, I cut off the excess with a utility knife. I ordered some wallpaper which I installed vertically, but the wallpaper was not the shade I thought it was going to be, so I decided to take it down. I figured the wall liner would be ruined at this point, but it wasn't! I can still use it. It's that tough!Needless to say, it will cover "problem walls". I took it in my basement and just out of curiosity, applied it to the concrete block and it looks like it would work. It works best covering slight recesses and not so much protrusions, so if you have something jutting out, it won't cover it well. However, in my case, I had these recessed "grout lines" and it covered them with ease.
