A Nice Book to Introduce a Unit on Shapes
This book right here has sparked some amazing conversations in my classroom about shapes. I used this book during student teaching with second graders, and I just finished a unit using this book with my own class of fifth graders. Obviously with second graders it requires more scaffolding and discussion in order for them to understand and grasp the concepts and terminology. We spent a lot of time identifying these shapes in our classroom. With my fifth graders, this book helped to gain their interest in shapes and provided a great framework for our discussion on polygons. This book allowed me to flow pretty seamlessly into the classification of shapes based on their properties (a CCRS standard in WV). Because this book is so versatile, I believe that every teacher needs this book in their collection!

Purchased upon request
My assistant principal handed me a list of books she wanted purchased after attending a conference. This was one of several and it is helping to update our non-fiction 500s section of our media center. Should correlate well with Common Core.
