As described for wider feet, allowing room for toe splay! Heavy though.
UPDATED x 2 I just bought my 3rd pair. 100% waterproof. I walk 30-40 miles per week and these have never let me down. I love them so much that I also bought the summer shoe version. No breaking in. I was straight out walking in them. Absolutely incredible. I have been. Wearing these boots for a year now. As mentioned in my review below, another brand of boot left me minus three toenails. I was able to walk in my Keen boots despite my toenails and I did not experience any further issues. I was in my local hiking shop recently and I discussed how brilliant Keen boots are for my feet. The sales person said that this model is well respected and is padded and great for people who wear orthotics. I love them they are SO much more comfortable for short walks than trainers. I will buy these again. I am new to hiking. I walk about 30 miles per week for fun and fitness and normally use trainers. However a recent commitment to a hiking retreat meant that I needed more robust footwear. Unfortunately for me I didn't do my proper due dilligence and opted for my normal size in a pair of Columbia boots bought at my local hiking store. I noted that the toe box was very VERY tight but was assured that it would losen out and mould with my feet. It did not. I ended up with black toenails that are just now ready to fall off. I was keen not to repeat this when hiking again, and researched options for wider feet. I am a size 10, small person with slightly wider feet and my toes like some space. Keen hiking boots are perfect for me. They allow my toes to splay out comfortably. They are heavy enough on the foot and overall feel like a pretty big fit. I take a size 5 UK. I wear 5.5 in trainers and I ordered 5.5 in these - they were HUGE. I returned them as they had been previously used and I will re-order in the size 5. I also liked the look of the more urban shoe but was hesitant about ordering it as it had fewer reviews.

Nice wide fit boots
These boots are nice and wide at the toe box. So if like me you have bunions or need orthotics, they are ideal. I usually take a size 5.5 and even with thick socks the 5.5 were plenty big enough. I've hiked through thick mud and wet grass and so far they've been waterproof. The ankle cuffs are quite stiff and took a bit of breaking in, but otherwise these boots have been very comfy and seem pretty good value for money compared to other brands. Sole seems adequate on stoney paths and offers decent grip Just hope they last as long as my old Berghaus boots...7yrs and hundreds and hundreds of miles!

This purchade - Not Waterproof
This is my 4th pair of Keen walking boots. They are comfortable from the 1st wear and no breaking in required. They are a wide fit with a good sized toe box. They are not the best for 100% waterproofness but I continue to buy for comfort. I do clean them with a reputable boot cleaner and reproofing product on a regular basis. However, my latest pair are Not waterproof at all. I have just done an hours pavement walk in the rain and my feet were absolutely soaking wet after about 40mins. I literally wrang my soaks out and poured the water out of the boots when I got home. I am returning . Do I buy another pair ? Undecided !

Highly recommend
I haven’t had a chance to wear them out yet, so I can’t comment on long-term wear. However, during the try-on they fit perfectly — extremely comfortable, beautiful, and my usual size fit just right. Delivery was very fast (only 1 day), which was also a big plus. Highly recommend!

Falling apart 9 months in and not at all waterproof
The stars are for the comfort factor and brilliant wide toe box. After just 9 months of dog walking and nothing too strenuous, they're falling apart. Shower level waterproof for maybe a month or two and then not Waterproof at all. What a waste of money.

Wide & comfy but definitely NOT waterproof.
Great for wide toe fit and comfy in general with no need to ‘break in’ but absolutely not waterproof. Feet got really wet from day one…both boots, all round so not a specific leak anywhere, just not waterproof. I bought them on offer so am keeping to use as a summer boot but they’d be going back if I’d paid full price. True to size.

Large fit
Comfortable boot. But would probably come down half a size next time. Look good. I've always bought keen and these were the cheapest ones I've gone for. I would probably stick to the tougher leather ones next year. They seem warmer and better quality than these ones. Otherwise a nice boot for a few months.

A new Keen convert! Pinched small toe nerve relief at last!
I don't write many reviews but felt these so deserved one. A bit long winded sorry but worth a read....I've been a Salomon's fan all my adult life; trail, running, hiking boots until recently (past the dreaded 50) I started getting acute pain around my little toes. So much so that I could hardly walk. I tried all sorts until I read it could be Morton's Neuroma, pinching of the nerve running between the small toes often caused by too tight toe box! I needed to replace my old Salomon hiking boots anyway and set to doing so much research it made my head spin! I'd read about KEEN Targhee's being roomier in the toe box, so I took a risk and bought them. I'm so glad I did! I literally now have no more pain at all. They lost only one star on comfort and thickness as I'd say for a day hike, the soles are less forgiving than my old Salomons but I've bought new socks to compensate. They are definitely waterproof (see pics this was from long wet grass) my feet are completely dry and by the end of the walk the outer had dried quickly. They don't look wide and clumpy on (like some boots with a wider toe box) they feel light and secure around my feet. The laces are that kind of slippery material which I'm not a fan of but that said they haven't come undone yet and I tuck them in for security. Easy to get on and off, no having to undo the entire lacing system. And lastly I am around a size 5.5, bought a 6 and they fit perfectly with a pair of medium weight hiking socks. Love this colour combo too! Hope this review helps :)
