Lacks Personality and Humour and Depth
Over the years I have read hundreds of autobiographies and biographies, you gain such a knowledge of the personalities of the celebrity/author.Many actors/actress's have tried and failed at writing their biographies. As a film buff who remembers the great stars of the 30's, 40's and 50's and the life's then lived, full of parties, cover up stories usually by the massive film studios. Many had great personalities, and their humour and stories made their books interesting, read David Niven books, Esther Williams, Tony Curtis, Robert Wagner, their books were filled with interesting stories. This book lacks personality, yes Demi Moore tells the true story of herself, it lacks humour, it really is about a woman who seems to have not found happiness, enjoyed drugs, enjoyed drinking, obsessed with looking good, struggling with relationships.Very little on her film career, little if no comments on her co-stars, working with some great actors, only slightly mentioning Jack Nicholson, sometimes hardly mentioning some films, some co-stars, no funny moments. It lacked feeling, it lacked interest. I read autobiographies to learn about careers, films, co-stars the characters of the screen, funny stories. It does show that life if not always what it seems to be, we the public believe these massive stars are happy, but with whatever their wealth, success often there is a sadness, not being fulfilled in life, always wanting more, achieving more success, more love.Three stars for me, not the most exciting.

Revealing and life-affirming.
Here is a bio memoire, told in her own words, by actress Demi Moore.Although it covers her life, it is written more to present herself rather than the image movies and the media have recorded and shown. It makes little effort to dwell upon her film roles or justify her success and glamour. Rather it is a deeply personal account, a response to the lowest point of her life when she needed help or faced passing away or taking her own life through substance misuse and or with intent.I feel the experience of writing about herself gave her the chance to spend time and discover who she is and what she is a product of growing up and finding fame in Hollywood. In this sense the book is as much for Demi, a catharsis in getting her truth out as well as the usual money generating self publicising biographies. It is a project that reveals a great deal and perhaps in exposing herself rather than conforming or playing a role provides not just insight but hope for others who have shared experiences in their lives. As a fan of her movies she is an accomplished actress, a sex symbol and a powerful woman in my prior thinking. Having read this book, I see the glitz for what it is, the image so far removed from the person and the individual more interesting than any part she has undertaken. This is not a choreographed chronological rise to stardom but a painful journey to self-awareness. Based on pain, hurt, disappointment, abandonment even being pimped. From illness to addiction, searching to self-loathing. Ultimately it is about relationships, human frailty, broken promises and unspoken words.I feel I appreciate her life better, not as a CV of work but of her life roles, daughter, wife, mother and friend. I am glad she didn’t give up, didn’t take on titles others gave her or expected her to be. Demi searched for herself and it is an affirming revelation. It was heart-warming to see the photos at the end reflecting her life story and the closing words of gratitude affirming those relationships that brought the book to print and sustain Demi’s life.

Someone to truly believe in
I have been wanting to read Demi Moore’s memoirs for a long time. I grew up in her era and loved the appeal she had. I really enjoyed her films and loved Bruce Willis. They both had a magical appeal and it was fascinating. When I heard that she had had a rough life, I am not a nosy person but have always loved to read what made people tick, I wanted to see what made Demi special. She truly had a very rough life filled with such turmoil and extreme havoc. I don’t feel sorry for her as she survived and it made her who she is today. Life is full of misadventures and mislaid plans. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and in order to get where you are at this moment in life, especially my life you have to go through the bad in order to get to the good part of your life. To appreciate and learn from those tough times. I appreciate life now and try not to take advantage of what is with me now or what the future holds for me. From the sounds of it Demi Moore is at that same place in life now where she appreciates and loves what is right in front of her. I take my hat off to Demi Moore and her strength to not allow life to best her, nor to allow herself to wither and die. I salute your strength and love for your three daughters they truly gave you that strength but remember Demi, you had that strength within yourself from day one, and you believed.......

a book a lot of people can identify with and learn from
This book feels like a long therapy session. Its a good thing and very interesting, it is also something a lot of people can identify with. I like that there wasn't this big hang up about all the celebrity stories. Demi Moore exposes her full journey and I appreciate the conclusions she made. For anyone expecting to read about the "juice stuff", don't bother.. the piece about A. Kutcher and the topic of the threesome was described in two sentences and was directly related to her insecurities. I finished the book in 8 hours (without skipping sections) and the only reason i don't rate this a 5 is that I feel there is something missing as she talked about her daughters and their decision to not talk to her for three years. Everything else is analysed and you get to understand why (from her perspective of course) people did what they did towards her and her understanding of it, but we don't get that as her daughters (at least I didn't get it) and Bruce Willis decided to ignore her for the years she was in therapy. It feels like its missing about two chapters and I was a bit disappointed as she had not spared in any of the other descriptions.
