If I’d put these in my shoes in 1949 I wouldn’t have needed the back surgery!
I recently had major back surgery to correct a severe curvature of the spine, the result of being hit by a car more than 50 years ago. Thankfully, the surgery was a success, and reduced a huge amount of my pain. One thing the surgery did not correct was that my accident had also resulted in one leg being 1/2 inch shorter than the other which caused me to have pain in my hip from walking after the surgery.I had the idea of adjusting an orthotic I was already wearing; but after looking online I saw this adjustable lift and thought “this is just the ticket”. It was, and it works magnificently!I wear a size 12W shoe and bought the large size. It fits well and doesn’t move around. I suspect I will buy another one of these as a back-up. I highly recommend this product.By the way, my hip stopped hurting once I started using this lift. Perhaps if I’d put these in my shoes in 1949 I wouldn’t have needed the back surgery!Note:On Aug 24, 2015 my surgeon look at my lift and loved it he showed me a little imbalance in hip height from x-ray took off two layers of the lift and hips are balanced.

Works surprisingly well in running shoes
I have several of the simpler Adjust-A-Lift heel lifts in various shoes and they work fine. I thought I'd give these a try to compare how they perform. At first I was concerned about how I was going to cut them to fit my running shoe well because it has a narrow and curved heel cup. Instead of cutting the 8 layers I needed, I peeled them apart into individual layers. Each layer is so flexible that I was able to put them down one at a time starting with the smallest layer, individually molding them to the shoe's heel cup. The layers ran up the sides of the shoe a little, but I think this only helps to hold them in place better. They adhered well to each other, stayed in place, and seemed to mimic the shape of my curved heel cup, only 8mm higher. I put the heel lift under the shoe's insole, and surprisingly I couldn't feel any difference in firmness between my shimmed shoe and the non-shimmed one. Perhaps running shoes are more forgiving than some other types--I was expecting that this non-compressible lift would make one of my shoes firmer than the other. I don't think my basic Adjust-A-Lift shims would have provided as easy or precise a fit to my running shoes as these.

good heel lift
I have a slightly longer right leg so I put a few layers of the heel lift into my left shoe and it seems to have helped. I was having some hip pain from the leg length difference while running. I run 30+ miles a week so any bio-physical issues will show up with that amount of training. I read that you shouldn't use a heel lift and try to correct your stride etc. Well I do land mid-foot and I'm not a heel striker, but the subtle lift does make a difference. My running has improved and I rarely have hip pain now. Granted my problem was minor, it worked great. I only wish you didn't have to order a huge heel lift, because I only used about 1/10th of what was provided. Would be nice to offer cheaper options, maybe half the height and material of this same type of heel lift. Holds up well overall.

Truly amazing, best heel lift I ever used
I love the mm increments you can adjust these. I actually get two lifts out of one of the large lifts. I only use about half of this lift and used the upper shorter half in my running shoes and the long bottom sections in my boots. I just slide it under the insole and they stay perfectly in place. Unlike all the other heel lifts that would wind up in the middle of my foot after a few steps. I actually gave up wearing lifts because of how frustrated it was to me, and my back and knee paid the price. Awesome product!

Almost Instant Relief!
Long suspected that my left leg, twice fractured in my youth falling off motorcycles, was shorter than the right. In a 30+ year span I mentioned it to several doctors but never received more than lip service from any one of them. Is it something that a doctor wishes not to become involved with? As a machinist I figured out a method to accurately measure my legs from the knee to heel. Not easy to do; it's necessary to make a fixture and its easy to get fooled as soft tissues are involved. However, about ~3/8 inch difference is what I came up with. Ordered the Clearly Adjustable Lift and used it at a full 12mm; more than 3/8 inch. Figured 'What the Heck', I can always adjust it downward if necessary. In only a day or so it was apparent I could walk my dog further and with less 'discomfort' [pain]. Even if doctors didn't know something was wrong, my dog knew it. Could soon work all day standing at a machine supported equally by both legs. It's taking a while to get rid of my habit of standing mostly on the right. Now that a month or so has passed the general improvement in ability to comfortably walk and stand is beyond my fondest expectations. The lift shows no sign of wear. I quickly got used to the lift and don't even know its there.
