Curt Manufacturing 56083 for Select 450h, Lexus RX 350

On my 2014 Lexus RX350 I installed the wiring connector (Curt 56083 T-Connector) while installing a trailer hitch and after having removed the fascia. It is easier to install with the fascia removed, but it can be installed with the fascia in place. It is simple to install because it simply plugs in. The hardest part is removing the factory installed cover from the female receptacle. If you have the factory installed TOW PACKAGE from Lexus you do not need to read the rest of this review. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to realize, however, is that just because you have the female receptacle in front of the driver side rear bumper it does not mean that the female receptacle is actually connected to the Lexus wiring system. The female receptacle is ONLY connected to the Lexus wiring system if your vehicle came with the factory installed Lexus TOW PACKAGE. You need to check the new car window sticker that came with the vehicle to see if it includes the factory installed TOW PACKAGE or you can type your VIN number into an online Lexus database to see if it includes the factory installed TOW PACKAGE as an option that original owner paid for. If your vehicle does NOT include the factory installed TOW PACKAGE, then it is missing a tail light signal control module located behind the trunk liner on the passenger side of your vehicle. SURPRISE! If you remove the trunk liner on the passenger side you will see a connector just suspended by some black electrical tape. Just think about it. You paid $50,000 for a luxury SUV and Lexus was too cheap to include a tail light signal control module that probably would have cost them $10 to $20 to install at the time they assembled your vehicle. It gets even worse. Now you have to go back to the Lexus dealer and buy the tail light control module for $125, and the parts department will have no clue what or why you are asking to buy this control module. But wait, it still gets even worse! You get home and remove the trunk liner (30 to 60 minute task) and you realize there is no 25 cent screw in the support frame nor did Lexus include a 25 cent screw in the box with the tail light control module. Fortunately, I had the correct size metric screw in my screw collection. Alternatively, you can buy a generic tail light signal control module from Curt, but you have to make somewhat messy splices into your Lexus' wiring system. The first lesson from this tale is that just because you see a wire connector in your Lexus don't assume that it is actually connected to the wiring system. The second lesson is that just because you paid $50,000 for a luxury automobile, don't assume that the Lexus is going to give you a 25 cent screw for free!

If you’re vehicle came with the option, this will plug right in. Prior to ordering, if you want to confirm the connections are there. Remove the splash guard under trunk. Look for a light grey cube with 4 wires going into it neatly clipped on the driver side close to bumper.

We used it to hook up lights from our vehicle to our utility trailer. Works like a charm, and saved tons of money, not having to get it installed at a garage.

Installed in minutes and works well when I checked it with a wiring tester light.
