Great all around knife
One of my most used knives. Edge retention is excellent and it still slices clean after years of use. sharpens fast. the handle is one of my favorites. Weight is just right.

Sleek, Sharp, Serious
Alright I'll be real with you, before I got this, my only cleaver experience was with a $15 Walmart one. Yikes, I know. Needless to say, as someone who keeps an eye on Dalstrong releases (I've had good experiences with virtually everything I've ever purchased from them), I was ecstatic when I saw this go up. As mentioned, I was really in the market for a cleaver that wasn't useless, and oh boy has Dalstrong delivered again. Based on some early reviews right when this knife came out, it seems like a lot of people got one that wasn't as sharp as they'd come to expect from Dalstrong products. Given the recent trend of reviews, I'd say this is a kink they have since worked out. So if you are reading this, these knives will arrive ready to cleave through anything you put in front of it straight out of the box. If for some reason you are the one in a million who's the exception to that, it's worth noting that Dalstrong's customer service is the real deal. If you are not happy, you can bet someone at the company is not happy, and their entire job is to fix your issue. As for the knife I got, I've been using it about a month now, not as frequently as many of the more general purpose knives, but here's what I've noticed thus far: 1. The black coating is every bit as functional as it is stylish - Like yes, this thing is gonna look amazing anywhere in your kitchen, but does it work well? Yes, yes it absolutely does. No wear on the coating, and it's as sharp now as the day I bought it with just a little TLC. 2. The grip is seriously underrated. Maybe I've been reading the wrong reviews, but there are simply not enough people raving about how comfortable the grip is for this cleaver. You can grip it however you find most comfortable, but that thing is not gonna slip, ever. 3. This should be the industry standard size for cleavers. Not all cleavers are created equal. I've seen tiny ones, I've seen ones that are as big as my face. How do you know what size is right for you? Easy, by this thing and never question it again. Bottom line, if you are in the market for a cleaver, this needs to be, at the absolute minimum, one of your final considerations. There's simply too many upsides with the cleaver alone. Factoring in the brand? Well, let's just say it's hard to find many companies like Dalstrong in the modern era. You are more important to them than your wallet. Always remember that.

Very large, heavy as well. Not 10 lbs heavy but definitely weighted. Blade is good but you will need to care for it regularly if you want to use it like you did when you first got it. Will definitely cut large meats and chop through bones. Useful for sure and i highly recommend if youre doing HEAVY OR LARGE MEATS. common kitchen use would not be practical but for a prep cook with non precut meat orders it would be perfect. Curved blade is also great for starting the cut. 9.5/10 only because i dont have much of that experience. Still a really good knife and i was impressed.

IMPRESS YOUR GUESTS!!!
Do we all need this knife? No. Do we all want this knife? Heck yeah! Trust me when you buy this knife your obviously buying the Dalstrong quality which is phenomenal, but you're also buying a statement. You have friends and family over? This knife will make their eyes widened and comment, maybe even throw in a few jokes. But, at the end of the day everyone will be impressed by this knife! Trust me, you want this.

beautifully sharp, right out of the package.
the cleaver just arrived this morning but I just had to try it out. first off the design and build are beautiful, the handle fits both large and small hands with ease. the handle sits in the hand fairly comfortably. whether wet, wearing vinyl or nitrile gloves, or slimy from chicken juices, the grip was superb and very secure. the best part though has to be the sharpness of the blade. Right out of the box it was shaving sharp, I was able to clean shave some of the hairier spots of my arm, though after slicing through some chicken and chopping up some onion, squash, zucchini, and tomato it lost that shaving sharp blade but its still plenty sharp. nothing a little honing can't fix. overall I am very pleased with the cleaver and I am contemplating getting the rest of the Shadow series. after a few months of messing about with it my views may change but as of right now I am happy

5 years. 36 Shadow Black, 5 Night Shadow, and 1 Gladiator knife later = i want more!
I may have a slight addiction: I made the mistake of buying my first Dalstron knife in April 2020, it is now Feb 2025 and as the title states: this is Dalstrong blade #42 now residing on our kitchen counter. Every single blade has been exactly as described and pictured, and yet every single blade has also exceeded all expectations. I'm truly not sure I can say anything much in a review that speaks more than admitting I've now invested nearly $2500 on 35 knives and my brother another $700. In the off chance a rep from Dalstrong stumbles across this review: please, I'm begging you - Shadow Black Ulu!!! my brother and I will buy a half dozen or more the minute we see them!

Absolutely dissatisfaction. It took 4 attempts to cut a chicken wing cleanly and it mangled the blade. Seriously this blade was wretched. We have a $20 magnet wrack piece that we have been makeshift using to cut chicken necks and wings that has been used for 6 months and has sustained less damage. Used twice and this is how it ended up. Returning for refund or replacement, maybe i just got a defective one.

Always a showstopper

Es un cuchillo grande y de muy buen acabado, el peso es bueno y seguro que cortara lo que se le ponga, solo le hizo falta el soporte de madera pero en general muy bien, definitivamente seguiré comprando mas de esta serie.

This is my third item from Dalstrong. I don't buy knives just because they look cool but instead I look for functionality even more. Not to say that this cleaver isn't beautiful because it is but I absolutely love how comfortable the handle is and the weight as well. It also does help that every item I've received from Dalstrong so far have been of amazing quality and strikingly beautiful too. When people come over and see my Dalstrong knives; they say that they look amazing but when they try them out as well are when they get stunned. DALSTRONG knives are a great conversation piece, functional and beautiful to bat. They really take pride in their products.
