I have two words for you...Australian cowboy. If that's not enough to pique your interest, let's thrown in an American farm boy from Texas. The accents alone are enough to do me in. Add in the fact that our Australian cowboy is firmly closeted thanks in large part to his deceased father's negative influence and an attraction between our two main characters that is intense and grows stronger every day and you've got the buildup to an emotional eruption ready to go.One thing I can say about N.R. Walker's characters no matter which book of hers I'm reading is that they are complex, have lots of depth, and will make you emotional as well as they grow and evolve throughout the story. Charlie is a prime example of this--he's denied himself for so long thanks to his father's emphatic assertion that a "fairy" can't run Sutton Station. Charlie has let this color his life-and not in a good way-even though it is blatantly clear to anyone who knows him that he CAN run it, and he does a damn good job of it. I felt so bad for him, suppressing his own nature and wants when even those who love him and call him family try to encourage him that it's okay to be who he is and love who he wants.Enter Travis-and thank goodness he came to Sutton Station. He's the kind of guy who will tell you like it is, and doesn't worry about what other people will say. He's strong and hard-working, dedicated and pitches in to help even though he's just arrived. He's the perfect man to show Charlie how things could be if Charlie would just open up. The physical chemistry between the two is amazing, and the naughty scenes between them range from wild and passionate to intimate and sweet.N.R. Walker paints a vivid picture of life on a farm in the Outback, and brings Travis and Charlie's story to life so perfectly-expressing the intensely emotional bond the two forge so well that it hurt to think that Travis was only supposed to be there for a short while before going back home. The scene in the kitchen between them right before Travis is supposed to go home is one of my favorite scenes (and not just from this book, I mean overall), and when it comes to the audio version, Joel Leslie does a simply phenomenal job at relaying the intensity and tremendous feeling occurring in that scene-he honestly left me breathless.This was a remarkable start to this series, and I highly recommend this story to any M/M romance fan 18+ (that's for the adult language and super sexy, steamy, naughty M/M sexual content). 5 stars for Red Dirt Heart!Audiobook notes:Joel Leslie did a superb job at voicing Charlie and Travis, especially in the scenes that expressed raw emotion and heightened feelings. He injects passion into the characters voices and thoughts, and really brought Red Dirt Heart to life for me. And I've got to say it again--that kitchen scene is filled with such energy and emotion...you'll see what I mean when you listen, and I think you'll agree. 5 stars for the audio!

Classic MM romance with all the good ingredients & the right pace:Setting:Australian Outback, at a large Cattle station (ranch). Hence the "red dirt" in the title.Main Characters:Two young men in their twenties. The Australian guy, Charlie, is the heir of the cattle station, a very hard worker and lives in isolation (no social life and self-inflicted dry spell of … TWO YEARS!). The American student, Tyler, is visiting the Cattle station for one month, and is full of life & uncomplicated.Secondary characters:George and wife Ma, the couple helping Charlie run the station: George is the foreman and Ma is the cook. They've been there before Charlie was born and they love him like the son they don't have. Bobby, the aborigine and great ranch hand & Fish the ranch hand who can drink his weight.Plot:I like the hurdles in the romance: First, they don't know if the other is gay. Second, Charlie is not happy to be gay (blame the late Charlie Sr). Third Tyler is only in Australia for one month.Most emotional moment:An accident happens to one of the MCs and the other goes through HELL, but he can only suffer in silence, because their romance is a secret. That makes it twice harder to bear.Could have been better:The handling of the climax, the last series of confrontation between the two MCs. The writing didn't convince me of the depth of their pain or hope. It was a bit of a let down because until then, the book had been near perfect, the emotions, reactions, characterisation, everything had been spot on.In spite of this flaw, it was a very good read. The characters are likeable & well matched. The romance is well paced, with many cute intimate moments to make you sigh. Oh, and the Ust is good, and topped by really hot sex. I just learned that there is a sequel planned and I say YES! There is so much potential for a GREAT series because the setting is really FANTASTIC, and the personality & situation of the two men lets you predicts one or two big conflicts in the future.

I'm getting into m/m romance and this is a good series. It's a about 2 men from different countries finding common ground....love. I like the setting of this story (Australia), most of the characters & the struggle of being good with who you are in the world. I recommend this series as a great escape from the daily grind. The love scenes are pretty hot.

Charlie ist jung, schwul, nicht geoutet und höllisch einsam. Zudem ist er der Boss der zweitgrößten australischen Rinderfarm und er ist ziemlich gut in seinem Job. Das heißt, trotz aller Unwirtlichkeit im australischen Outback schreibt er schwarze Zahlen. Das Leben ist nicht einfach, doch Sutton Station hat es all die vielen Jahre geschafft, zu überleben.Als sein Vater (der ihn allein großgezogen hat, weil die Mutter eines Tages einfach auf und davon ist) mitbekommt, dass sein Sohn sich zum gleichen Geschlecht hingezogen fühlt, schickt er ihn zum Studium an die Ostküste. Aus den Augen, aus dem Sinn (das Problem mit dem schwulen Sohn). Doch der Vater stirbt, ehe das Studium beendet ist, und Charlie kehrt heim, um die Ranch (die in Australien Station heißt) zu übernehmen. Dort draußen im Outback, mit einer Handvoll Rancharbeiter, ist Charlies Leben ... puhhhh ... ganz schön trist. Doch Charlie liebt the Red Dirt. Er hat die knochenharte Arbeit, seine "Hands" - die Rancharbeiter, und einen Vorsteher sowie eine Haushälterin - die wie Pflegeeltern für ihn sind. Die kleine Gemeinschaft ist eng und ein bisschen wie eine große Familie. Die Nebenfiguren sind scharf und sehr liebevoll gezeichnet.Travis ist ein junger Amerikaner, der gerade mit seinem Studium der Agrarwissenschaften fertig geworden ist. Er ist jedoch noch nicht bereit, nach Hause zurückzukehren und sich dort in die Rancharbeit einzubringen. Eine Ranch, die er wohlgemerkt nicht erben wird, weil er nicht der Erstgeborene ist. Seine Familie ist aufgeschlossen und freundlich und vertritt recht moderne Ansichten. Er ist schwul, was weder für seine Familie noch seine Freunde ein Problem darstellt.Travis bewirbt sich für ein Praktikum in einem der unwirtlichsten Gebiete der Erde - weil er wissen will, wie Agikultur dort funktionieren kann - und er wird angenommen.So lernen sich Charlie und Travis kennen ... und dann beginnen ihre gemeinsamen Abenteuer.Die Autorin ist Australierin und ihre Bücher atmen und leben. In den Zeilen liegen jede Menge Liebe und Herzblut. Die Hitze des australischen Outbacks strömt einem mit jeder Seite geradezu entgegen.Zum einen sind da diese wahnsinnig tollen Beschreibungen der australischen Landschaft und zum anderen die tiefen Emotionen der beiden Hauptdarsteller. Die Spannung wird durch die Höhen und Tiefen in der Beziehung der beiden Jungs sowie die Abenteuer, die sie zu bestehen haben, durchweg auf einem hohen Level gehalten.Die ersten drei Teile sind aus Charlies Sicht in der Ich Form geschrieben. Im 4. und letzten Teil kommt Travis zu Wort. Die Geschichte wird fortlaufend über mehrere Jahre erzählt. Einige Höhepunkte sind: ein Ausritt von Travis in die Wüste. Travis ist ein schlaues Köpfchen und kennt sich mit der Arbeit im Outback gut aus. Als es Probleme beim Mustering gibt, bietet er an, die versprengten Rinder einzusammeln und zurückzubringen. Dabei kommt es zu einem Unfall und sein Pferd kehrt allein zum Haupthaus zurück. Die Situation ist kritisch, da es so gut wie unmöglich ist, den verletzten Travis zu finden und mit jedem Tag/Nacht allein in der Wüste wird es unwahrscheinlicher ihn lebend zu finden und zu retten ... Das war zum Haare raufen, Fingernägel abfressen und schreien.Ein anderes Mal schleppt Travis ein Baby Kanguru an, das seine Mutter verloren hat. Charlie ist fassungslos. Es ist, als hätte Travis eine Ratte mit nach Hause gebracht. Nichtsdestotrotz - das Baby bekommt einen Namen und wird mit der Flasche von ihm aufgezogen. Füttern alle vier Stunden, rund um die Uhr ... der Junge hat Nerven. Und es bleibt nicht bei dem Baby Kanguru. Der nächste Familienzuwachs ist dann ein Wombat.Das Leben auf der Station wird nie langweilig. Die Farmarbeit wird dabei ziemlich detailiert beschrieben und ist wirklich aufregend zu lesen.Andere Katastrophen sind ein abgelaufenes Visum und die drohende Ausweisung; ein schwerer Krankheitsfall in Texas, der Travis zwingt, nach Hause zu fliegen. Und Charlies Unsicherheit, dass er glaubt, Travis würde nicht zu ihm zurückkehren. Und dann ist da noch ein anderes großes Problem. Charlie ist nicht out. Und er hat die berechtigte Sorge, dass Sutton Station dem Untergang geweiht wäre, wenn seine Nachbarn erfahren sollten, dass er ein schwuler Farmer ist. Dieses Problem wird sehr glaubhaft geschildert und es gibt einige ziemlich unschöne Auseinandersetzungen mit schwulenfeindlichen Geschäftspartnern.Die Liebesgeschichte selbst ist wunderschön, der Sex wirklich heiß.Das Englisch liest sich sehr leicht und es macht in dem Fall wirklich Spaß zu lesen, da man kaum etwas nachschlagen muss.Ich kann diese Serie wirklich sehr empfehlen. Sie ist spannend, rund und die Figuren bleiben unvergesslich und klingen lange, lange nach. NR Walker ist eine meiner Lieblingsautorinnen, die ich uneingeschränkt weiterempfehle. Für mich sind Charlie und Travis wie Callum Snell und Mitchell Steele. Die beiden Australier wurden von der Fotografin MelJane wunderschön in Szene gesetzt.

Déception sur la qualité de livre broché, mais pas l'histoire...J'avais lu la série tout entière en forme Kindle, et je me suis très douché par l'histoire entre Charlie et Travis, donc j'ai décidé d'en acheté en forma papier..Mais après avoir inspecté les livres, c'est pas vraiment ce que j'attends: ce sont simplement une version imprimante de forma Kindle, même pas paginé !!! en plus personnellement j'aime pas la couleur de papier utilisé, très blanc et ça fait mal au yeux quand on le lit pour longtemps.Enfin parce que ce sont imprimés par Amazon UK...

I really like all the books of this author and as soon as one comes out I automatically buy it - without reading the blurb!So I downloaded this after messaging the author about something else and she said that she was planning a sequel to this book. I'm glad I did. It is very easy to read and flows well.It is a lovely story set in Australia. I really like the fact that it was set in Australia, as opposed to all the American stories based in Texas, and the author has really captured the vastness of the country perfectly.The story is told from Charlie's point of view and I really liked his character. Slowly the guys get together and work their way through some of Charlie's issues. Travis is a live wire, knows what he wants and goes for it!I especially loved the section in the 'safe zone' of the Kitchen!The author has really managed to put the emotional content into the story.Ms Walker is definitely my type of author. I would recommend the Thomas Elkin series if you have not read that yet.

Aussie m/m at its finest!After reading this story, the conclusion I’ve come to is this – I’m a despicable excuse for an Aussie, because I’m bloody certain I wouldn’t last a day in the Outback. Truth be told, nor would I want to. Just reading about life in this rural, mostly arid (thanks for this new word, book), vast and brutal landscape, which is sufficiently cut off from civilisation, however beautiful it may be, made me want to curl deeper into the comfort of my couch, in my air conditioned house, in the middle of suburban Melbourne. Ha!But I’ll tell you what, I have such a profound respect for those who can, and do, live in these sorts of isolated rural environments, who work the land day in and out, without reprieve - I have a bunch of extended family that do just that - I take my Akubra hat off to the lot of you!!As for this story, I loved it! The narrative was engaging, the writing style was smooth (I particularly enjoyed how much I related to all the Aussie colloquialisms – too right), and what a brilliant cast of colourful characters! I adored Charlie, plain and simple. I found the always smiling Travis to be a perfect counterpart to Charlie’s lonely, slightly damaged character. And I would be remiss not to mention my utter adoration for both Ma and George. What fantastic secondary characters!
