Is the material lead free?

Nothing is really lead free. The certifications to look for are nsf61 (low leaching of multiple toxins) and NSF372 low lead (<0.25%). when both are met they list it as NSF-61/9. That said most these backfkow preventer claim to "meet" the lead limit of 0.25 but are not stating they are actually NSF61-9 certified. Another claim is AB1953 which also limits lead to 0.25. But neither AB1953 or NSF372 on their own confirm the leaching. They also mislead because they are referring to the brass only, not the rubber gasket or the plastic components. Look for the NSF logo and confirm it is for the entire product.

I bought this and it didn't fit. The 3/4" size seems correct, but the thread on my faucet is finer than this. What should I have bought?

The Reason Breakers Are Installed At The End Of Your Laudry Faucet Is To Prevent Whatever Liquid Is In The Garden Hose Attached To Your Faucet With The "Breaker" Between The Faucet & The Hose... Breakers Prevent Liquids From Being Siphoned Back Through Your Faucet & Into The Water Mains... Example: If There Was A Fire Down The Street, And The Fire Department Was Fighting The Fire, It Would Cause A Negative Water Pressure In Your Area... Now If There Was A Garden Hose Attached To Your Laundy Faucet Without A Breaker Inbetween, Whatever Liquid The Hose Has In It, Or Sitting In, Like A Chemical & You Open Your Faucet While The Fire Department Is Fighting The Fire, The Liquid From Your House Will Be Siphoned Out Of Your House, Into The Water Mains, And Into Whoever Opens Their Faucet For Ice, Dog Bowl, Drink Of Water, etc... When This Happens It's Called A Cross Connection... It Sound Complicated, But People Die All The Time In These Type Of Ways, Because The Chemicals, Water/Paint, AntiFreeze, etc, Went From Your House & Into Your Neighbor's House... Because There Wasn't A $4 Vacuum Breaker Attached To The End Of Your Laundry Tub Faucet, And The Neighbor Died... Backflow Preventers Protect Buildings From Cross Connections... But There's No Code In America That I Know Of That Requires An Expensive Backflow Preventer Be Installed To Protect Your Home... Vacuum Breakers Meet This Need At The Highest Probable Point Of A Cross Connection, Between Your Laundry Tub Faucet & The Hose Attached To It... If There Wasn't Those 3/4" NPT Threads On Your Laundry Tub, Or No Hose Was Attached To Your Faucet, No Breaker Would Be Needed, Because There's No Risk Of A Cross Connection Taking Place...
