Beautiful and Functional Book
What a BEAUTIFUL book! Very quality made, quite honestly, a show piece for any coffee table! A quick browsing and I noticed high quality images that show every little detail; an easy to read font; color charts that are based on the widely used DMC cotton thread; instructions that are simple, clear and concise. I can’t wait to try my hand at one of Trish Burr’s lovely patterns. As someone who has an affinity for both birds and botanical style florals, this book really hits all the sweetest of spots. It really is lovely from cover to cover.

Amazing Book on Color and Needlepainting with Added Bonus of Great Projects
Shading with cotton or silk embroidery thread to make lifelike flora and fauna is a recommended technique for the aspiring and advanced embroiderer. Combining colors to make this happen is often a bigger challenge than the stitching techniques. Many people struggle with the intricacies of the color wheel and the differences between tone, value and hue when it comes to color - including me. Trish Burr has made all of that easy with a book that is visual rather than analytical. The first chapters have the review of materials and techniques that all good instruction manuals have, but then Trish Burr combines the colors for you, first in charts, with reference to both DMC and Anchor Thread numbers and then in lovely miniature projects that would be at home either on their own, on a crazy quilt or as part of a larger project. The possibilities are endless. Trish Burr has made color theory and color combination accessible and visual in this book and it is a prize indeed. I note that it is sold out on amazon at the moment and there is a reason for this: Burr makes color intuitive rather than intellectual and I believe this book may prompt many fiber people to finally understand that color wheel - but even if they don't they will be able to combine colors for embroidery and other fiber projects. Truly a quiet masterpiece that will give needleworkers more practical confidence with color than almost any other work. Recommended.

A wonderful book
This is a book that fills a gap in the market . Several designs , from easy flowers and birds to more complicated flowers , birds and even portraits , with all the numbers of the colors you need to start your embroidery . On top of that , you see how the expert chooses colors , all easily explained . This is a good follow-up book to ' needle painting embroidery '' fresh ideas for beginners' or a stand -alone book for non-beginners or even experts in needle painting . It gives exactly what it says : no more heartbreak because I chose the wrong colors in the shop and end up with a work I suspect could be so much better . One needs to take some time with this book , to carefully examine the projects and apply the rules to your own work , drawings or photo . It is a bit of work , but how much time don't we spend on the work itself ? If you do that , a new world opens up , even for those who think they have no colors sense !

There is no better book on colour in embroidery available!
This book is one of the best embroidery books I have purchased, bar none! The information, the examples for us to use in our own embroidery designs, and the fabulous projects, diagrams and step-by-step instruction photos for each one stupendous. Trisha Burr is one of the best needlework tutors in the world, and as I am Australian too, I feel so proud to think that Australia has produced such an amazing teacher. Her own designs and stitching must be the envy of every needleworker interested in needlepainting in particular, but the information on how to use colour to our best advantage in our own work is simply wonderful. It has certainly opened my eyes up to the complexity of combining colours to make our embroidery truly come to life, and I can't wait to try it for myself, although I doubt if I'd ever be able to produce work as beautiful and realistic as Trisha's. I recommend this to anyone who is serious about producing the best embroidery projects they can, and with all this extra information, I believe almost anyone can. The book arrived with two other books in a sturdy cardboard box, and in very good time. Definitely recommended.
