Compact and Accurate - AcuRite Pro Humidity Meter & Thermometer
I recently purchased the AcuRite Pro Humidity Meter & Thermometer with Touch Activated Backlight, and it has been a very satisfying addition to our RV. The device is user-friendly, with a straightforward interface that makes it easy to read and understand the current temperature and humidity levels. One of the standout features for me is the different mounting options. This flexibility is particularly useful in an RV setting, where space is at a premium and you need devices that can adapt to different spaces. The AcuRite Pro fits this need perfectly. In terms of accuracy, this device is spot on. I've compared its readings with other measuring devices I own, and it consistently delivers accurate results. There are no discrepancies or issues in its performance, which gives me confidence in the data it provides. Another aspect I appreciate is the quick visual readout. The display is clear and easy to read at a glance, which is convenient when you're busy and just need a quick check. Additionally, the size of the unit is just right – it's compact enough not to be obtrusive in our RV, yet large enough to easily read the display. Overall, the AcuRite Pro Humidity Meter & Thermometer is a reliable and handy tool for anyone needing to keep track of environmental conditions, especially in smaller living spaces like an RV. Its ease of use, accuracy, and compact size make it an excellent choice.

Great, a little too bright
Works fine for my needs in a bedroom and seems to be accurate. The backlight is nice for checking at night but the screen is almost too bright in a completely dark room.

A little ingenuity and it works well.
First off, this is initial review: I will update if things change in the future. I'm actually quite happy with this product. I'm knocking one star off because it doesn't have a little stand to put it on. That has not been a problem for me as the table I have it on is very sturdy and does not wobble so it works fine. I do not seem to have the level of problems reading the meter as I have seen in other reviews. I mean really, it's your basic LCD. I can view mine from probably a 40 degree angle but not much more without really straining. But again, where I haven't it's not a problem. A couple of life hacks for you: while the unit does take a while to adjust to temperature, all I did was lean it up against a cold soda can. It did take a while, but eventually the temperature went down in about probably 40 minutes to a fairly accurate degree. What I did find, is that if you leave the cover off for the batteries it will adjust a lot quicker. I really could give a crap about the battery cover so for me it's not a big deal. As far as the stand or lack thereof I should say, I did another little life hack. Since this does not weigh much at all, all I did was take a little quick of cardboard off of a snack box, like triscuits, and cut it off a little less wide than the unit itself. Then I bent the cardboard about in half. I then took a little piece of clear Scotch tape from the lower bezel of the unit just below the screen. Bingo! Instant cheap stand. I know that this is not optimal, but you can't see it as far as the stand, behind the unit, so who cares? Not me. I actually had a little bit of fun setting these up. The humidity gauge is pretty accurate right away, but the temperature does take a while to adjust and is accurate from 1 to 2° which is fine with me. If I wanted a higher end unit I would have bought one. This concludes my review.

Great reliable little meter!
A great dependable meter. Updates quickly like every 10 seconds. Batteries last a long time, as I recall I only changed once after about 3 years of continuous use. I find the backlight very handy (tap the top to light). Temperature was accurate vs other gauges in the home. Didn't have another hygrometer to compare against. But taking the math approach you can take the local weather readings and calculate what the indoor relative humidity should probably be, and it was right on accurate. Great value for the money! Recently bought another one for a friend.

LIKE IT, easy to use and mount and see!
I just received this unit and so far I really like it because it's very easy to operate and read AND it records the highest and lowest temps for the past 24 hours... it shows "trending" changes, too... which is one of the main reasons I got it... the humidity has been just awful here in central Florida this summer and I wanted to see trending humidity as much as I wanted to know the temperature... I also like that there is a color-coded bar that has an indicator arrow showing what range the current humidity falls into, "low, ok, or high"... it's a great little unit and I'm going to get a couple more, I think, to keep permanently in several locations... for inside the house where the air-conditioner is, and for the carport and garage where I have a lot of stored memorabilia and tools and also for the chicken coop... The only drawback to this unit that I can see is that if you move it from one location to another and there is a big difference in temperature, it takes awhile for the box itself to cool down or warm up to the new ambient temperature before it can start reading the new temperature correctly. When I took it out of the mailbox, the ambient outside air temperature was 95 degrees (in the SHADE)... so the temperature inside the hot, metal mailbox was probably about 110 degrees, the package was actually warm in my hands when I picked it up... I took it inside to an air-conditioned room that was 76 degrees... and when I immediately opened it and popped in the batteries, it read out 103 degrees even though the actual temperature where I turned it on was 76 degrees. It eventually read the correct room temperature and kept up with the changes okay... but later, when I took it out to the carport, the same thing happened in reverse... it was still reading in the 70's, even though the air temperature was in the 90's out there at mid-day... (I have a baby video monitor in the chicken coop that reads new temperatures immediately whenever, and wherever, it is moved.) I think this "lag time" is a drawback if you plan on moving it to different locations during the day as I had initially planned to do... The humidity meter seems to change much more quickly. All this being said, I LIKE the unit... Another really great perk is that it has magnets on the back (in addition to screw slots for wall mounting) that are very strong and the unit grabs on instantly and securely to anything metal, so it's VERY easy to put it and then take it down again almost anywhere that you want to monitor the temperature and humidity. It clicks right onto file cabinets, metal carport posts, lamp posts, cage wire, the metal baskets around fans, etc. The "24-hour log" can be easily reset to start over again immediately, too. I haven't even had this 24 hours, but so far... I am VERY happy with it... I only wish it would adjust faster when moved, but maybe it's really designed to stay basically in one location. It would also be nice if it lit up in the dark, too! The information booklet is VERY well done, it's simple and clear and easy to read with nice-sized bold print... it lists the website and support information (www.AcuRite.com) I just went to the website and it is chock-full of ALL KINDS of sensor equipment for temperature, humidity and weather stations, etc. GREAT STUFF! I think before I order more of these units, I'll check out their other products first... since I live in hurricane country, their weather stations looked pretty interesting... and they also have lightning sensors, too!

Excellent accuracy, repetition, long battery life, very pleasing display, easy to read from far away
This review covers model AcuRite 01083M, two identical meters purchased in Sep 2018, about 2.5 months ago, $16.73 each. I like this meter very much, with time it became important part of my life. It did not happen before with my other gadgets that also displayed humidity and temperature. ACCURACY. Both AcuRite 01083M show identical readings all the time, with a one time exception during 10 weeks time frame: Humidity readings were 47 and 48% for a few hours at home, both units standing within 1". Other meters showed less or more than AcuRite 01083M at that time, likely due to poorer accuracy, poorer speed. SPEED. I noticed my other meters are very slow, compared to AcuRite 01083M, never agree - due to slow action. This is seen mostly when opening, closing windows in the morning, evening. With time I learned to ignore readings from other meters, presently rely on AcuRite 01083M only. It is both fast and accurate, made all other meters in my home obsolete. MAGNETS. Two 3/8" diameter back side magnets for attaching to metal surface are also very nice - and surprisingly strong. I hear a loud click when attaching to fridge door and can feel quite decent force pulling AcuRite 01083M to the door. I attached AcuRite 01083M to ping-pong table frame and let it hang on one magnet only - very strong hold! DISPLAY. It is very easy to read across a large room, very clear even at more than 80 deg. Later I started paying attention to High, Low readings and learned they are important to me. Somehow I did not pay a lot attention yet to arrows showing UP / DOWN trend - but may need them when meters put to bathroom or fridge. So far my home readings during last 8 weeks covered 15 - 60 for humidity, 65 - 85 for temperature. I see some improvement could be made to AcuRite 01083M: When temperature set to Celsius, two digits mean less resolution. Maybe display could be arranged slightly different, to make extra room for 3rd digit? Is it possible that 3rd digit is not desired for such fast meter, as rd digit would keep changing too often? MAN, MIN readings for both humidity and temperature are very nice addition, I check both very often. DIMENSIONS. Amazon shows accurately all dimensions. AcuRite 01083M is not very slim, changing present thickness from 7/8" to even 3/4" might make it look nicer. Some products on market have rounded edges to make them look slimmer. I think 7/8" is good because meter stands on flat surface very firm. And its weight is balanced well, no accidental falls expected. MANUAL. I appreciate very much printed manual that is very easy to read, no tiny characters and poor print quality often seen on manuals for products costing hundreds of dollars. Manual size is equal to two Letter Size sheets. It is easy to read, content is presented cleverly and thoughtfully. Model name on manual is 01083, while actual meter I purchased has 01083M printed on the side. BATTERY LIFE. Not sure about battery life for two AAA batteries, having AcuRite 01083M only 8 weeks. Manual while very good, nicely detailed - it has no battery life information. It would be nice to read something like - Typical battery life is 10 months, typical current consumption is .... mA. This product WILL / WILL NOT work with rechargeable AAA batteries. - I really wished to know such things. I took my trusted Fluke digital multimeter model 8060A, set it to read current, inserted test leads between batteries in battery compartment. I did this in front of the mirror, so I could see how AcuRite 01083M acted with current meter connected to it. Current reading was same 13uA on both ranges 200uA and 200mA. AcuRite 01083M kept showing exact humidity, temperature readings during testing, all this seen in the mirror. And display seemed to be as bright as before. I did not expect such good performance. So I took laboratory grade instrument and obtained identical readings 13uA. I calculated that AAA batteries rated at 750 mAh should work here about 6-7 years, too good to be true? Maybe my testing shows static performance, while AcuRite 01083M consumes much larger current as pulses spaced apart by 1 minute for example? I DID NOT INVESTIGATE THIS. Interestingly AcuRite 01083M displayed correct info INSTANTLY after batteries inserted, very nice feature - many other products on market show flashing screen, some big job is going on after batteries inserted. Some day I will test AcuRite 01083M with rechargeable batteries, will update this review. DROP TEST. During current consumption testing I accidentally dropped AcuRite 01083M a few times on hard surface, from about 1 foot. No visible changes to meter's surface, all readings remained, same AcuRite 01083M put next to the other unit gave identical readings within 1 minute. However I would not drop AcuRite 01083M on tile floor from 3 feet. MAGNETIC FIELD. It would be nice if I could put AcuRite 01083M on tall speaker without worrying if magnetic fields from speaker affect meter readings. Manual while nicely detailed, it does not show if AcuRite 01083M is sensitive to DC, AC magnetic fields. Maybe I will put very strong magnet next to one of two AcuRite 01083M I have and see after a few minutes if both meters read same? I consider AcuRite 01083M a clever and very thoughtful design. After 8 weeks of comparing AcuRite 01083M to other meters I have confidence this meter is right one for me. I plan to put one in the bathroom, where I expect to see more challenging readings. I am very happy with my purchase, consider it a bargain for what I paid.

Best in class – here’s why
[NOTE] At the time this review was written, this device had only been for sale since December 2016 and reviews for 3 completely different models were all mixed up together. So to be clear, this review refers ONLY to the AcuRite Pro model AcuRite 01083M Pro Accuracy Temperature & Humidity Monitor LIKES 1. Small physical size but large easy to read primary displays 2. Well-designed hole for hanging plus 2 strong magnets. NO fold-out easel stand but wide flat base allows it to stand up pretty well 3. Setup controls are not too complicated 4. Smaller digital readout of temperature and humidity history. The temperature one is for the past 24 hours, the humidity one can be switched from past 24 hours or lifetime (until the battery is replaced at which time it resets). 5. Comfort zone scale is somewhat useful and easy to understand NOT SO GREAT The largest display is humidity and the smaller one is temperature. Some people, including me, would prefer to have them reversed. It would cost nothing for them to make this a setup option, it makes no sense why the designers didn't realize that Note that there is no clock function whether visible or not. That means that you can't choose when the 24 hour cycle begins/ends for recording daily highs and lows. For example if you insert the batteries at 3:48 PM that's when the 24 hour recording cycle will begin. You can trick the design by waiting until midnight to insert the batteries if you want to know the history for a true 24 hour cycle This is a simple temperature/humidity reader, there are no clocks, remote sensors, alerts, alarms or anything else. For my purpose of monitoring the room temperature and "comfort" level of humidity in my bedroom none of those mattered, I bought this because it was exactly what I need. ACCURACY A thermometer is worthless if it's not accurate. Unfortunately the vast majority of thermometers being made these days are pure junk, sometimes nowhere even close to being accurate. And humidity meters can be even worse. This one out of the box was within reasonable tolerance if you're not picky but it did read a couple of degrees high for both temperature and humidity. That would be something you'd have to live with for most products in this price range but the good news is that with this model you can fine tune both the temperature and humidity readouts by calibrating them using a known accurate device. Once calibrated the AcuRite Pro was dead on after that, at least until the batteries had to be replaced.

A unique Temperature/Humidity Monitor
This AcuRite model, 01083M Humidity Monitor, is a unique Temperature/Humidity Monitor. To my knowledge, there is no other digital monitor in this price range having a calibration capability. After receiving the unit (don't recall the readings "out-of-the-box"), I immediately ran the "salt" test, placing the unit in a zip-lock plastic bag together with a cap filled with salt and appropriate amount of water to achieve somewhat of a "salty paste." I left the device in the sealed zip-lock bag overnight, for at least 12 hours. As a result, the humidity reading stabilized at 64 %, off by 11 % from the correct reading. Then while still in the zip-lock bag (very important), I proceeded to the calibration function, actually permitting either the temperature OR the humidity to be reset. In my case, I adjusted only the humidity, adding 11 % so that the resultant reading was exactly 75 %. Although re calibrating the device while still in the bag is physically a difficult task, it is essential if one is to accurately make the adjustment. Now, following calibration (as long as the two AA batteries are not removed), I'm confident of the humidity reading and can use the AcuRite 01083M device as a reference against all other monitors in the house. As a point of interest, a short time earlier I purchased the ThermoPro TP50 Temperature/Humidity Monitor. Although I like the front display as well as the stand capillarity and a strong magnet for hanging purposes, it does not have a calibration function. Thus, after performing the "salt" test and comparing it to my reference, the AcuRite 01083M, the humidity reading was consistently 8 % lower. So to compensate, I always add 8 % to the displayed humidity reading (actually I affixed a small plastic label to the frame as a reminder to make the adjustment). That said, the ThermoPro TP50 is a good, reliable monitor. So hats off to AcuRite and their new 01083M Temperature/Humidity Monitor... a unique device at a very affordable price.
