Whole process was good
Good delivery, very timely. The Polaris works as expected.

Some adjustment required
It took a few days and some adjustments, but then it cleaned all of the pool very well and did not stay stuck in any place.

Pricey, expensive to maintain over time but works best
This is my 3rd in the 18 years we've had this home with a pool. **** update after 11 months of use below**** The 380 runs about 3 hours a day ( large pool). Replacement parts such as the collection bag are expensive, I use a piece of panty hose once the bag wears out. The tires do wear down and a soft rubber shoe goop type stuff can be used to "re-tread". I use pieces of scotch brite pad to replace the sweeper pad. ( complete rebuild kits including bearings are about $225 from a specialist shop)--- but eventually the chassis wears out. It is fairly resistant to chemicals( not the bag!) , but should be pulled when shocking the pool This latest unit arrived ready to go out of the box. Cosmetically it differs slightly from the older units and I can see some changes to the design, hopefully for the better! I connected the line to my existing fitting ( requires a booster pump), and to the 380,installed the bag, checked the hose connections for tightness ( some were not) and turned on the pump. The measured RPMS were 30 so no pressure adjustments needed but it is easy and spelled out in the manual. I'll watch it tonight when it goes through the cycle and see if the sweeper or jet need adjustment, but the short test run was stellar. The 380 can be counted on to remove leaves, palm seeds, dirt, grit, golf balls and even rocks from the pool, which we found out when a trenching machine went out of control in the alley adjacent. I have not seen a better pool sweeper/cleaner/sucker. It'll stir up the fine stuff it cannot trap ( panty hose works better than the bag as it is finer) and the fine stuff can get to the pool filter. It has a reversing timer that will keep it from getting stuck on steps or in a corner, about every 2 minutes it'll be pulled backwards and start somewhere new. It can be adjusted for how much climbing the walls and whether it goes straight or circles depending in what works best for your pool shape. The pricing at amazon was much better than the local store(s) and with the 20% offer, I was in. free ship, no 9.25% tax and a final price about 60% of the local store OTD price. 1 day Update: after the first night's operation ( about 4 hours) the pool hasn't been so clean in a long, long time--- it shows how worn the old 380 was. I will be able to reduce the running time of the booster and main pumps, so I'll save a few ¢¢¢ on electricity. The new hose system is more flexible with fewer swivel joints to go bad, the cleaner climbs the walls better, I think the new hose system puts less drag on it. The new bag system with zipper is easier to clean than the old velcro system- as the gunk would get trapped and held by the hook side of the velcro Really, this thing was set-up out of the box ready to go- unlike the units I purchased years ago After 11 months, still happy as a clam- we had a big dust storm here which covered the bottom of the pool completely with brown grit and although the grit is too fine to be picked up by the Polaris, it kept the dirt suspended so that the filter eventually grabbed it all after about 8 hours operation. the tubing is still nice a flexible, and I have needed to replacement parts yet... DO NOT BUY THE 380. Its a bad design.
I've adjusted the pressure flow rate, wheel speed, float positions and rear jet angles and my new 380 circles too much and ties the hose in knots till it stops working. The combination of its under water weight and 3 wheel design makes it turn and circle too much until the hose gets spun into a knot. The hose is stiff due to winter cold water and the 2 rotating joints just don't prevent twisting and then knotting of the stiff twisted hose. It seems as though its not heavy enough and the poor 3 wheel traction just encourages it to turn and circle no matter how the rear jet is set. Once the hose is getting knotted, the cleaner cannot reach the end of the hose and the far reaches of the pool. The oak leaves in my pool almost immediately jam either the throat due its small size or the entry portion of the bag. The bag is too small and its stitched to form a cloth tube before the leaves get to the bag open area. This cloth "tube" grabs the oak leaves sharp points and jams the opening to the bag. Once a single leaf jams, the whole bag entrance jams and then the throat after having only partially filled the bag. Then it runs around needlessly unable to collect anything. Would not recommend - period. They could have increased the throat by 1/2" and used a larger bag without the silly stitched tube-like entry.

This is a great pool cleaner, I have had my pool for over twenty years and this is the second Polaris 380 I have had. They last a long time.

Polaris 380 has worked well for me
This is my second Polaris 380. The last one lasted 14 years and over those years I did need to replace a back up valve which was damaged because I did not drain it properly and it froze and cracked over the winter. I live in Utah and so the cleaner was generally used 2 hours per day from mid May until mid Sept. each year. I would also like to say that I have the original booster pump that has lasted 28 years. If a persons pool was open all year, I would not expect it to last that long. The price was so much less at Amazon that I wondered if it came with the full set of hoses and leaf bag. It does and the price could not be beat anywhere. The price was less than buying through other online companies even with a current rebate. Now I did not have to hassle with the rebate even. One note is that the instructions for cutting the hoses properly was confusing to me. So go to youtube or the polaris website and watch the video. That cleared it up for me. Cutting the hoses to the proper length will affect how efficiently your poolsweep works. If you leave the hoses too long it will get tangled and not clean correctly. One of my local pool stores was charging almost twice as much.

Arguably the best on the market!
Our 10 year old Polaris 280 (image included) finally gave up the ghost and it we decided to shop for its replacement. We looked at other brands of side pool cleaners but we had such great success with Polaris that, for us, it was only a decision between the Polaris 280 or the 380. Both the 280 and 380 require a booster pump, about a $250 additional cost if you don’t already have one. The Polaris 360 does not require the booster pump and is around $75 less than the 280 and $200 less than the 380. Based on all of our research we decided to go with the 380 and we have no regrets. The improvement over our old cleaner was very noticeable, especially it’s ability to climb and clean the pool steps as well as the sides. I added a great photo of it running along the walks of our pool. The installation instructions are easy to read and implement and the ability to adjust the speed of the cleaner and the tail sweep are simple. If you are shopping for the cheapest side cleaner on the market, the Polaris 380 is not it. But, if you want the best, and either have, or are willing to install, a booster pump, then the 380 can’t be beat!
