Updated review from 1 star to 5
After emailing the company about my issue, they responded and sent me a replacement. The new unit is noticeably higher quality, with a better power plug port and different looking front. Old review: I was really excited to use this energizer but after 1 month of it barely working it stopped turning on completely. The LED light did turn on when I first plugged it in, but the shock was weak so I thought my problem was the ground. I purchased a 7 foot grounding rod and put it over 4 feet into the ground and attached my ground wire with a grounding clamp. The next time I plugged in the energizer it failed to turn on, no LED light and no shock at all. I emailed the company Agri-Otter but have not received a response yet. I spent hundreds of dollars on accessories like a grounding rod, t-posts, fencing, insulators and wiring just to find out the energizer doesn’t work.

Dead after less than six months
I purchased this Feb 21, 2022 and didn't get around to installing it until May. I checked on it today Oct. 19, 2022 and it's dead. So I got less than six months out of this Energizer. I was initially so impressed by the high output and ease of insulation that I purchased a slightly less powerful one on August 19, 2022 for a different fence line. I regret that now but will be replacing the dead one with that one. Hopefully I can get at least a full six months from *that one*. Reasons why I initially bought Agriotter: They are a Canadian based company and I support not sending manufacturing overseas. Very high output, and when it worked my animals respected this fence and so did predators. Very reasonable price. The ability to easily switch to a battery if needed. Reasons why I won't be buying another: Low life expectancy. I haven't asked if they would replace it because I don't want another Agriotter Energizer. It's not worth the risk of my livestock's lives having to police my Energizer.

Great customer service
I ordered three of these. I consider high voltage electric fence transformer.. My intentions are to keep predators and wildlife out of my backyard. They work well, however, one of them stopped working or was working intermediate. I sent an email to the company and they sent me a new one Absolutely awesome customer service and that’s why I’m giving a five star rating. Customer service is great. I hope this product works well for you. Pray and think positive Have a blessed and awesome day Ryan

True 2 j load and versatile.
Not water proof but resistant. Does require some sort of roof over it. But all in all a very good product. PERFECT for medium to very large gardens pens, corrals, and even temp set up for camping. Works great with wire or poly cord. Keeps racoons, possum's, squirrels, deer, dogs, cats, cows and sneeky neighbor's out. Deer have tried it 3 times (different groups of 5 to 12 deer) and it only takes one per group to test the fence and they dont try again. Smaller animals only try it once. The cows are detoured after 2 direct hits unless it is a really dumb one the 4 hits and it keeps its distance. I highly recommend this product and would work for camping for most animals except hogs and bears.

Working fine so far, nice strong "zap"
Update 2: The AC to 12vdc adapter ("wall wart") was unprotected at the end of an extension cord during a big rainstorm. The adapter, which looks like it is sealed, filled with water and died. So be sure to protect the adapter from weather. The fence charger was also exposed to rain, but it survived just fine. Of course it should also be protected if possible. Update 1: A bear finally decided to test the fence. She didn't like it. Video attached. This is a mama bear with two cubs that visits often. (At least I think this is Mama bear, I'm not very good at identifying individual bears). The bear touches the wire out of frame, but comes running back through the picture at a dead run. Original: So far I'm happy with this fence charger/energizer. It's way overkill for my setup, but I am trying to keep bears away from my chickens. My tester pegs at 10kv everywhere on the fence. Now we just have to wait for a bear to show up to see how it works for deterring bears. Note: I used a 4ft copper ground rod into moist soil. Longer would be better. The included "rod" is junk. Also, as someone else mentioned, the post studs are too darned short, but they can be made to work. Charger is connected to RentaCoop poultry fence that surrounds three sides of the coop and forms an outside run with a passthrough from coop. Front of coop is unprotected for now, but I'm working on fixing that (with the green fencing seen on the ground in video). For now the chickens still spend every night in the coop in the barn, this setup is meant to keep them safe during the day. They free-range when I'm there to keep an eye on them, but go into this coop when I'm not around and into the barn at night. I tried powering the charger with a 100w solar panel (plus battery and solar controller), but its just too shady at the coop. I finally gave in and ran a 100ft extension cord to power it with AC. The only negative is that this charger is a bit dangerous to small critters. Last month a bear broke into the barn and killed two chickens before I chased it off. So I bought another of these and used it to energize the metal gates at both ends. So far it has killed 5 toads, 2 millipedes and a cricket that all tried to crawl under the gates. The chicken fencing also killed a toad. I will raise the gate a bit to increase the gap and hopefully stop killing small critters.

Good for horses
Powerful and reliable! This energizer is perfect for my fencing needs—covers my pasture easily with consistent power. I love the flexibility of running it on either AC or battery, which makes it great for different setups. Installation was simple, and it delivers a strong, steady pulse to keep livestock secure. Solid build, weather-resistant, and excellent performance—highly recommend for farms and ranche

Great when it works
Bought 2. Both broke down within a month. The manufacturer replaced one of them and it has been working great. But as is the case with energizers, when you need them…you REALLY need them.

Failed in 2 months
Used this fence charger to protect my garden... found out that this unit failed after I went to check my garden and found that the deer and the trash pandas destroyed my garden. Thanks for nothing you useless piece of "junk" electric fence charger! I even siliconed the crap out of this unit to make sure water wouldn't get in, but it still failed. Absolute waste of money! update: I fixed the fence charger by replacing the transistor labeled "TIP41C"... using https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083TX6Z2J?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details When I took the charger apart, it smelled like burnt electronics. The transistor next to the yellow VBH013 transformer was clearly faulty and looks like it may have shorted out on the bottom of the circuit board. One of the first things I noticed when I took the unit apart is how sloppy the soldering was, with lots of excess solder all over the board. I cleaned up the board and replaced the bad transistor, hopefully this will permanently fix the unit.
