Perfect stir-fry tools — lightweight, durable, and gentle on my wok!
I’ve been using this Joyce Chen bamboo utensil set for several months, and it’s become my go-to whenever I cook with my carbon steel wok. The set includes a spatula, spoon, and rice paddle — all made from beautifully burnished bamboo that feels strong but super lightweight. They’re the perfect shape for stir-frying, especially the curved spatula which glides along the sides of the wok without scratching. I love that they’re made from natural bamboo — no risk of damaging my seasoned wok surface like metal utensils. I hand-wash them after each use and they’ve held up really well. No splitting or rough edges so far.

Absolute rubbish
These are rough, rough, rough...not the lovely, smooth finishes of the photographs. Of course, the price is cheap and...guess what? Dollar store price, dollar store quality. After I had already bitten, I looked closer at the reviews. One reviewer said that she had bought a lovely set of these elsewhere and speculated that somebody had dumped a load of factory seconds on Amazon. IMO, "factory seconds" would be an upgrade since that term usually implies a small, cosmetic defect. These are just junk.

very useful kitchen basics
Simple and effective. These hold up well to regular use and we even dishwash them in my house. They are still going strong! They do get a bit stained if you use them with a lot of spices, but that always happens with wood. The varying shapes and sizes are nice too since you can decide based on the size of pan you're using. The rice paddle was a nice surprise. It's very useful for rice (obviously) but also things like mashed potatoes, or anything else that can be scooped. It helps with serving and not making a mess.

Bamboo makes a difference
I started out using wood and cheap material stir fry sets from department stores. They certainly served me well throughout my college years. I thought there were no differences. But with all types of products, there are. This bamboo set is no exception. It has a nice feel, almost as if they were meant to fit into your hands and for cooking. To put it simply, it feels soft and comfortable. As advertised, they will not scratch or damage pans, pots, and woks. They are smooth and treat all of your cookware like a baby. The bamboo does not absorb much moisture, which is godsend for cooking. There are three different cuts: 9-inch rice paddle, 12-inch mixing spoon, 13-inch stir-fry spatula. The small details can make a HUGE difference. The 13 inch stir fry spatula is very versatile. It can be used for rice, mixing, and of course, cooking. It's good that the surface of the spatula is flat and can hold a good amount of food. This is great when you want to just check how the cooking is going. The different pieces are enjoyable to use. The handle isn't anything special, but that's okay. It's a normal shorter neck, and then widens at the bottom of the handle. There is also a hole to hang the pieces onto a hook or cabinet. If you're willing to pony up a little more for a quality set, this is certainly an excellent option. Give this a try and feel the difference. You may not want to use metal or plastic spatulas & spoons ever again.

Great quality and useful all purpose set!
I have had this set for more than 5 years. All pieces are still perfect and I find the set useful for more than just stir fry. I use them daily to cook everything. I do not like using plastic spoons/utensils to cook as they pose a health concern, so the bamboo is a great option. The rice paddle is obviously most useful for rice and that is all I use it for. The mixing spoon is useful for any kitchen task that requires a spoon. The stir fry spatula I use to chop and stir meat when browning or to scrap the bottom of the pan when making a sauce. I do not put these utensils in the dishwasher and simply handwash and let air dry most times. I love this set and definitely recommend them for their usefulness and quality.

Set does not come with items pictured - bait and switch!
I've loved Joyce Chen bamboo for ages; use them almost every night for something. When my daughter said she wanted a set of bamboo tools, this was my go-to. I have to say, however, that this set was not at all like the photo - the main things being that it does NOT come with a holder/container as pictured, and the rice paddle in nothing like the one pictured, it's more of a short spoon instead of a paddle. I contacted the manufacturer and they said to just return it to Amazon, but Amazon would just ship me another set that didn't contain the holder for the utensils; guess I'm out of luck!

Unlike wood, bamboo is a member of the grass family and has very different properties. Bamboo utensils are stiffer, stronger, and harder than the same utensil made of common wood used for utensils. Because bamboo does not absorb significant water, these utensils will not swell, split, or absorb the food you are cooking. They are similar to wood in terms of heat resistance. As a result, these are strong utensils that outperform wood. Once you try one, you won't buy wooden spoons again. These particular utensils are burnished (polished by rubbing) to give them a smooth finish that is easy to clean, and food doesn't stick to them as much as it does to wood. Although they may be as strong as steel in terms of not breaking or bending even when trying to mix a very stiff dough by hand, the ends wear down slowly if they are used to scrape the browned on bits of food off of pot bottoms. Although sold as a stir fry set, I use these for many other things, involving stirring, mixing, scraping, fluffing and serving cooked grains, and mixing dough by hand. Highly recommended for any kitchen.

I am very pleased with these spoons! They were purchased to keep my new teflon coated T-fal pots and pans scratch free and they have done just that. The bamboo does not stain as easily as wood and they also do not expand like wood does when left in water. They are hard bamboo and a nice finish. Highly recommended. I am sure you will love them.

I own a Joyce Chen spatula and love it. I saw this set on Amazon and was excited to purchase it. Unfortunately, the set does not appear to be authentic Joyce Chen. The plastic box containing the items was not sealed when received, the contents appear cheaply made and the items do not contain the brand label. Very disappointing.

The little spoon in this set is the BEST wooden spoon I've ever used. We've had one for over 10 years and I recently bought a new set, not because the old one wore out but simply so we'd have a 2nd to use when the first was dirty. The other two longer spoons are nice too, although they have broken over the years; we got our money's worth out of those. But, that little spoon is a champ, no matter what task you give it!
