You really can't go wrong with a Tilley. My comments aren't really based on my most recent purchase but based on past experience with Tilley hats I've owned including this same model. I have been wearing them for around six or seven years for hiking. Considering I do hundreds of mountains and hikes per year that adds up to a lot of wear. Despite repeated washings they maintain their position, no sagging brims which for me is very important. And the double lace under the chin keeps them grounded even when the the wind is blasting. Since they seem to last forever why did I recently purchase another? I lost my hat - second time.

I did not know my hat size, so I guessed 7&1/2. It is way too tight. I needed 7&5/8's. I do not want the hassle of returning the hat for a new hat. I have unpacked it already and not able to return. My mistake. I will just wear my 10 year old Tilley.I had a great Tilley hat for many years and loved it, so I wanted a new one, but this one is too small. My mistake.David

I love the style of the Tilley hat. This one has a medium brim which is the size I prefer.While working outside, the Tilley is great sun and water protection in light rain.And, when mowing the lawn, I wear ear protection. The folding sides allow me to wear over the head protectors and keep protection from the sun.These are great.Be careful about sizing. The hat should fit just a tad looser than a normal snug hat. It is comfortable and looks great.

First off, I LOATHE wearing hats. That said, if you are out in the sun as long and often as I am a hat is really necessary. These hats are made for outside sports like sailing. For that they have a strap to go under your chin and around the back of your head as well. Really keeps the hat on your head very well.
