I used one of these bases to fix a fiber-optic Christmas Tree decoration. The original design used a power transformer (120V to 12VAC), low-rpm AC motor, halogen bulb and color wheel to create changing colors on the tree when turned on. The orignal transformer went bad, so I replaced it (12VAC power supplies/transformers are not as cheap, nor as common, as the DC units). The tree ran for about 1/2-a-day and then died again. The real problem turned out to be a bad AC motor - which also wasn't cheap.I never liked the fact that the halogen bulb was cooped-up inside the decoration with all its heat, anyway, so I looked for a better solution. I decided on using this color-changing LED base, instead. I ordered these and opened one up. The LED base was hot-melt glued to the base of the fiber-optic bundle in place of the color wheel, and I attached a 3-AAA battery case inside the tree that fit, along with re-using the on-off switch from the original base in the tree.It now works great, and I no longer have mechanical parts to worry about failing in the future. I kept the 2nd base in the set as a spare, but I expect the repaired tree using this base to last us a long time.

These are just what we were looking for. While in Europe several years ago we bought two decorative glass objects which display most effectively when lit from below. We also bought two bases with colored LEDs to illuminate them with changing colors. Unfortunately either some of the LEDs, or connections to them, or the on/off switch began to fail after about a year and became useless.We selected these Display Bases from among numerous models in a search in a search on the web. The quality is far superior to the ones we bought in Europe. Better switches. Seven LEDs instead of three. And a brighter display. The only downside is that battery life appears surprisingly short, but they are AAA batteries and they are quick and easy to change, and we may get better results with a change of battery brand.

I bought four of these to illuminate some of my crystals. The colors are vivid and the luminosity is not overwhelming. Great for adding a little extra pizzazz to my crystal specimens, and the rotations is not too fast so you can enjoy the view.There are no instructions, they say they have speakers (not sure how that works?), the motor can be a bit noisy, and the trap door for the batteries is a bit of a pain to close.Overall good value.

Well.....that was extremely disappointing. I ordered two of these to go along with a Christmas gift I planned on giving to a family member (a photo 3d crystal) and I wanted to use this as a base to beautifully display said crystal. I specifically paid for expedited shipping to ensure that it would be delivered before Christmas....and it was. It was delivered today (12/22/15)....in many pieces. I should have known right when I opened the shipping box it came in and immediately heard some rattling noises coming from within. I was crossing my fingers that I was just hearing something else. As I took the first LED base out of its little individual storage box, I saw that the top mirror portion had a crack running clear across the top. Although unsightly, the unit might have still functioned. However, since this was being given with an accompanying gift, I could never allow myself to give someone a cracked product. Onto box #2. Upon opening the second box, I heard a distinct rattling sound from within. The second base came out in pieces, the top mirror was cracked and had come off the top of the unit in several pieces. These are definitely going to go back. Very disappointing, considering I do not have time to order more and have them arrive before Christmas without paying an astronomical amount in shipping charges. If these LED bases had arrived in pristine condition, I would have been ecstatic. However, not one, but BOTH arrived completely broken. Two thumbs down.

I bought this to display some crystal thing my kid bought. She loves the colors. It's not real clear to me which batteries these things are supposed to take. AAs barely fit so I tried AAAs which fit, but loosely enough that they occasionally popped out. What I did was fold a bit a paper into the battery compartments after putting in the AAAs, then I snapped the compartments shut, securing the batteries. Problem solved. This product does what I wanted it to do and was inexpensive, so I'm pleased with the purchase.

Nothing fancy about it, but so far it works great. I like that it is battery operated so I can display the glass jellyfish anywhere I choose. Switch looks like it has three position - one for operating colored lights, off, and no idea what the third position is for. Thought it might be for white lights only, but it doesn't do anything. Only in use for a couple of weeks, but for the price, I have a backup if it fails.

Pros: The light brightness and quality is awesome.Cons: It eats through batteries.I bought these to light a glass trophy I won at work. It does a good job of that and certainly attracts attention. However, three AAA batteries only last a couple of days with this thing being on for 6 or so hours.My only other gripe would be that the color transition is instantaneous and not a gradual one. It'll make whatever you put on it glow brilliantly though!

This adds new color and dimensions to glass trinkets. One of the two arrived with the glass top askew, but I was able to pry it off and reattach.
