OTC 6613 Variable Pin Spanner Wrench

Even though this is specified as a Toyota pin wrench, I got it primarily to take some motors and specialty equipment apart. It had zero issues putting up with amount of torque I was putting on the little pins to get things apart. On the end of the wrench is a 1/2 inch drive square to really give you some extra leverage with a breaker bar or regular ratchet. Pins included are 3.5 mm, 4 mm, 4.5 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm, 7 mm, 10 mm. Fully opened up, I could get the wrench to expand to just over 5 inches. The blow molded case holds the pins and wrench fairly secure as I have dropped it many times with no damage. In a ruined fastener, have been able to drill some semi deep holes and used this wrench with great success. Overall, have had no issues with the few times that I have used this. I used this generic tool during a timing belt replacement on a Toyota Sienna 3.0 liter engine, and it worked as advertised. Adding a 1/2-inch ratchet to lengthen this tool to hold the cam gear more or less still, I loosened the cam-gear bolt with a 1/2-inch breaker bar plus a pipe extension (the removable top half of my jack handle served that purpose) plus significant effort. During reassembly, to tighten the bolts to the specified 94 ft-lbs, I substituted a 1/2-inch torque wrench (plus the pipe / jack-handle again) for the breaker bar. In both cases, to get an adequate grip on the cam pulleys, I used the tool's longest set of screw-in "holders." There was no damage to them or to the arms of the tool; his tool is made of tough stuff. The illustrated tool case is provided, and it's a good one, with compartments for each of the illustrated parts.

This product is marked as a Toyota Camshaft tool, but that's not what I needed it to do. I needed a pin spanner to remove the bearing retainer from the rear wheel of a 1972 Honda CB350. The holes in the retainer are 5mm diameter, and a set of pins in this tool set fit them well. Unfortunately, none of the pins would thread into the tool because the female threads in both of the arms were a mess. Once they were chased with a M10 x 1.25 tap, all of the pins fit the tool correctly.This bearing retainer was tight, so I needed to use a 1/2" breaker bar, which fortunately this tool was designed to accept and it handled the additional force well. The tool would get 5 stars if I didn't have to finish making the tool before using it.

BMW use a nut with four holes to secure the front strut cartridge into strut housing. I foolishly thought this would work to remove that nut. The pins fit but the tool isn't robust enough to handle the torque and just twists and makes a mess. The correct tool is a socket with 4 pins in it (or just use a pipe wrench with sharp teeth and some heat).Regardless, this is a nice tool and I'm happy to have it if I need it. Just throwing this out there for anyone that is looking to do an E30 front strut with it.

I bought two of these two different times and had to return both of them. The OTC cam tool was used and had greasy finger prints on them and the package was clearly opened and close and taped back up. The tool was not only use but was rusty and the attachments did not fit so well. I had to ream out the threads to get attachments toFasten. I both the other cheaper on in the red box and it was less expensive and brand new in the box. I think the cheaper one works as good and maybe even better.

I bought this tool to help with changing a timing belt on an 04 Tacoma. The tool is strong but the bits that screw in of various sizes are too short to work on a crankshaft. I had to find two 1 1/4" bolts that fit and cut the heads off, which did work but it would have been better if I had bouth the tool made specifically for this job on this vehicle. I hope to find another use for this tool in the future.

I was nervous that this tool wouldn't do my job. I have a good sized hydraulic that needed to come apart. I tried a few other nick nacky spammer wrenches first with no success so I broke down and bought this one. I try to avoid buying specialized or specific tools since I am not doing this for a living but I had no choice. I am actually glad I bought it though. It has several different pins to fit a variations of pinholes and the tool is stout.My cap was really hard to remove. The square hole in the handle fits a 1/2" drive so you can use a socket wrench or breaker bar in combination with this tool for leverage. I used my 1/2" drive AND had to hit my drive with a hammer to get my hydraulic cap to budge. That is a LOT of force being put on this tool. Like I said- it's stout. No bending or breaking at all. I highly recommend it.
