Every day last week, instead of my usual hazelnut coffee with french vanilla creme, I brought a quart jar filled with green smoothie into work. In spite of my coworkers comments about how terrible it looked and how they could never drink anything that looked like that, I drank my quart of blended greens, lemon, bananas, and frozen mixed berries each day. The multitude of greens and fruits filled me up and kept me eating a lighter lunch or snack throughout the week. I lost four of the ten pounds I want to lose the very first week!I really don't know why people don't like the color green. When I was a young girl, it was my favorite color. When people asked me why, I told them "Because green is the color of life." At that time I really didn't understand the science behind what I was saying, but did understand that the trees and the grass are green and that I loved to be outdoors. If you want to understand the science behind the green smoothie, Robyn explains it quite well. A quart consists of 15 full servings of raw greens and fruit and 12 or more grams of fiber depending on ingredients. That's 150% percent of the USRDA"s suggested daily fruit and vegetable intake! She tells us that we will get more live enzymes in blended green drinks than in any other food. Why do we need enzymes? Because they are catalysts in our bodily functions, including digestion. Now I for one can attest to that. My digestive system shaped up after a mere two days of smoothies.The great thing about smoothies is that they help you detoxify, increase your energy, keep your skin and hair looking beautiful, and help you lose weight (if you can avoid all the processed foods that surrounds us these days). Robyn tells us which greens to eat, gives us tips for buying and storing greens and fruit, and tells how to grow our own. Some reviewers have criticized her, saying the book is an infomercial for Blendtec. I didn't find that the case at all. She actually recommends the Vitamix more highly, which I already own. If you try to make smoothies in a regular blender, you'll find out like I did ... you can't do it efficiently. So bite the bullet and buy yourself a Vitamix or a Blentec, and then use it like crazy. You will get your money's worth of good nutrition and better health. Emphasizing raw foods is the only way I've been able to lose weight, and the pounds will fall off pretty quickly. I do recommend this book ... it is full of helpful tips and information.

Packed Full of Information!
This book is fabulous! I don't know what people are talking about, saying that it's nothing but a BlendTec infomercial. She only mentions very briefly about the BlendTec blender and also mentions Vitamix. I can understand why Robyn recommends one of these blenders. If you have ever tried to make a real green smoothie in a less than ideal blender, you will see what I mean. I have done a lot of research, but just using a cheap ninja or oster is not going to cut it for long. I know because I have been there and done that. I have actually gone through 4 blenders/processors until finally coming to the realization that I needed to quit wasting money and invest once and for all in a proper kitchen tool. If I had just did this to begin with I would have actually saved money.But back to the book. It's very informative as to why green smoothies are beneficial, which greens are best and why, and how to go about implementing them into your family and life. There is even information on how to start growing your own greens so you can save money and have better nutrition. There are plenty of recipes and a 3 day green fast detox and also a 30 day detox fat burner cleanse. Both are very simple and easy to implement.I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to regain their health! Robyn is wonderful and a delight to read. I have been a GreenSmoothieGirl.com blog reader for years and even with all the information she has there....this just adds another dimension to my understanding of how and why I and my whole family need to be doing this. I am proof that the green smoothies can improve your digestion, your energy and your weight along with so much more. I have even begun to notice a few gray hairs that have turned back to my dark brown. This is my 3rd month of doing the smoothies. But I have also begun removing meats and dairy. I can't even begin to tell you the health improvements. I have been an avid "You need lots of meat/dairy to get enough protein" person for years. So I was very skeptical. But nothing was helping my health and I was continuing to get worse despite being what I thought was healthy. Boy was I wrong. I am very thankful to Robyn for all the information she makes available. She really helps you to understand why this works. And what could be simpler than to add a quart of green smoothie a day? It's such a simple addition that can have far reaching effects. When you begin to feel better, it will give you that push to make further changes.
