Tio Berto's Baru vs Darin Olien Barukas
Sampled 1/4 cup from each. Took off all the brown shelling (had to dampen the tips of my fingers and twist that apart on each). The roast and taste is even for Barukas (I set aside two w/odd pattern and found they were still okay to eat). Tio Bertos appears and taste uneven with the roast...some were too burnt to eat so I set those aside (1 in that burnt pile is just impossible to remove the brown shell it ended up being okay to eat with the brown shell). I wish Tio Bertos was better because the price is good! I may stick with Barukas though for the consistency and even flavor. I guess it ends up costing the same since some of Tio Bertos are inedible.

The best nuts ever
I read about the baru nut in a Robb Report magazine wellness section and just had to find out more about them. My research led me to realize just how amazing they are. I initially was going to buy a smaller bag, but all of the reviews and descriptions sounded amazing. So, I decided to order the large bag and I'm glad I did. I received the bag promptly and decided to cut it open right away. Immediately when I opened the bag I was engulfed in an almost intoxicating aroma similar to peanuts, but stronger and sweeter. I grabbed a couple and popped them into my mouth and started chewing. The texture was somewhat like almonds, but crunchier. The taste was like that of peanuts but again sweeter. The real reason I'm glad I bought the large bag is because I liked them so much that I took them to work to share them. I felt compelled to try to spread the word about this product and what better way than sharing. I probably gave out a quarter of the bag, but I'm not complaining. When reading that the trees are scarce, and unless people buy them exporters may not buy them I had to help promote them. The people at work loved them and two people I know have already ordered a bag.Personally I think these are the best nuts I have ever had, and as soon as I run out I will be re-ordering them. The nutritional profile is amazing with 30g containing 8g of fiber, 7g protein, 19% of magnesium, 15% potassium, 32% of vitamin e. This is by far the best food I have purchased from amazon. Do your health, tastebuds and yourself a favor and don't think twice buy them. I guarantee that you will love them. Unless you like salty products then you might have a problem.

Is this real life?
These nuts are nuts. As a vegan, they had me at "complete essential amino acid profile." They could taste like dusty old gym socks, and I would have ordered them. That's not what they taste like. On the Rich Roll Podcast, the taste was described as "if a peanut went to bed with popcorn." That is accurate. The instant I crunched one of these magical nuggets, a voice cried out from deep in the wells of my soul: "MAKE THIS A NUT BUTTER!" "But I've never made nut butter before," I argued. "NUT BUTTEEEEEEEER!!!" the voice insisted. When I regained consciousness, I found a simple nut butter recipe open on the computer. Fifteen minutes in the blender later, I had a scratch-made butter made of exotic Brazilian nuts. Life will never be the same. The taste: special. The texture: smooth but with just a hint of crunch. A baru nut butter and fig jelly sandwich on whole wheat bread transported me to another plane of existence. The nuts themselves, butter aside, are really something exciting. The flavor and mouthfeel are very accessible. The macronutrient profile and micronutrient mix look more like a well-balanced meal than a single food item. The idea of a handful of nuts serving as a total meal replacement is ridiculous. These things really need to be a rare superfood; it's not fair to other foods.

Awesome tasting and healthy nut!
I absolutely have fallen in love with these nuts! Wonderful nutrition profile compared to other nuts was the primary reason I purchased them. Once I received and tasted them, I IMMEDIATELY reordered another bag, the butter and was disappointed they were out of the trail mix. These nuts taste like a more robust sweeter tasting peanut to me. My only gripe is the cost. $16 for a 12 oz bag is pretty steep and I have to ration my consumption to spread out several days. However, when you take into consideration that these nuts are not highly farmed and this is a commodity that will help deforestation in South America, it kinda makes it worth the cost.

Soak in water or steam to soften
Trying to eat these seeds right from the bag is like trying to chew pebbles found in concrete aggregate. I now take about ten seeds with the dark cover still on and add them to a 4 oz juice glass which is topped off with water and allowed to sit for 30 minutes. Drain. The seeds and dark covers are now chewable and to me have a weak peanut like taste. When cooking some veggies in "waterless" cookware, I sometimes add a handful of seeds at the start. When the veggies are cooked, the seeds become more soft than with soaking and add a little protein boost to the dish. ( They are a seed and not a nut. )

Delicious roasted taste
Recently saw these nuts advertised on tv to be a great superfood and though I would try them. Wasn't sure if I would like them but they actually taste really good and I feel great about knowing that it is one of the best healthiest nuts to eat. I like it a little bit better when i take off the skin but the skin on doesn't taste that bad either. You should definitely give them a try.

Not sure what all the hype is but...
It's just another nut. But I'm all for assisting in "reforesting and sustaining indigenous communities." So because of that, it's worth the price. But the taste is not extraordinary. I love a good nut and have had much better such as a brazil nut or I even prefer a nice almond. The apparent nutritional value of this nut is impressive. At first bite, it was a bit laborious to chew and swallow. It was easier to chew and swallow without the skin, but even after that the taste was just mediocre. There is nothing about the taste of the nut that I could honestly recommend. However for the cause, I would highly recommend!
