Unforgettable characters. Aliens, robots and super spies battle for their place In the universe. In my opinion this is the best way to find my favorite new authors. Review: Clear your calendar. You're going to want to read this in one sitting. - I love a good anthology. Gives me a chance to sample stories from authors who are new to me, and read new works from favorite authors. Patrice Fitzgerald draws the cream of the crop in every publication. Her own work is top shelf, so that should be no surprise. Anyway, this is a seriously good read and one you will not want to put down. It's tough to pick favorites because they were all outstanding, but special mention to: "Badass Smuggler Types" by Jack Lyster; "Unarmed and Dangerous" by Nadya Duke; "The Aurora Antidote" by David Burns; "Petty Android Bastard" by J.M. Thomas; and "Yesterday's Hero" by C.H. Hung. Highly recommended.

...excellent SF short story anthology.
...another excellent SF short story anthology. I was gifted with a free eBk. So...when I began reading, I prepared self with pen & paper to write down unfamiliar author names so as to investigate more of their writings, should I like their story in Beyond theStars: Across the Universe. Oh my, I feel almost silly stating this, but...I LIKED ALL THE STORIES. ummm, amazing, eh? A few were superlative, imho. Yes...do buy this book, 'e' or paper. It's GOOD. I intend to buy a paperback copy to have on my shelf, and re-read selected stories again, later. YippeeSkippy...

Fast-paced, captivating space opera
All these authors are experts at catching you at the first page so you'll just have to drop everything you're doing and read to the end of the adventure. Sure enough, shields are failing in the first few sentences of Nemma Wollenfang's "Imperatrix, Tertius," the crew is nearly out of food at the start of Nadya Duke's "Unarmed and Dangerous," and the hero of David Bruns' "The Aurora Antidote" is fleeing a large and angry space station technician. I won't spoil the fun for you—you really do want to find out what happens next.

An excellent space opera anthology
A great collection of near- and far-future space stories. I especially liked Nadya Duke's "Unarmed and Dangerous" which recounts the resistance of a group of scientists on a lunar base to the near-sighted political decision to shut down all lunar settlements. This story was superbly written and showed a charming combination of golden-age can-do attitudes with a modern-day social outlook. Strongly recommended.

Really enjoyable
This was a fun read. As others have pointed out, Nadya Duke's "Unarmed and Dangerous" stands out—great characters, lots of charm, and even lessons in teamwork and leadership. Would recommend.
