This filters the water as you pour it from the pitcher. Works well. I live in Florida, where the water is awful, and it makes it taste much better, and removes a lot of the impurities. Not as good as an under the sink filter, but much more affordable!

To be realistic (as a college student who had one), the original Brita isn't going to fill up more than two water bottles before you have to refill it. I was annoyed. As a college student, I don't have free time to wait for the original Brita to get done filtering the water as I'm filling it up. So I replaced it with the 'Brita Stream XL Water Filter Dispenser' which holds 1.7 gallons (6.4 liters) of water. It's amazing! The filter is not too big, it's easy to replace, and the water is always clear even though there is much dust in my dorm since it's an old building. Totally recommend!
