Works with Valve Index VR headset
My goal was to use a Valve Index VR headset in another room, far from the PC. First, we tried a 10 meter DisplayPort 1.4 cable with fiber optics inside to help keep the signal clean. That cable went from the PC to a simple Cable Matters DisplayPort coupler. Then on to the headset. The dreaded sparkles appeared (randomly colored pixels appearing all over the displays). Sometimes the video signal was lost entirely. Repositioning the DisplayPort cable could make it better, or worse, but not perfect and not stable. So we got this signal booster. The instructions say to put it after your long run of cable. So we installed it in place of the plain DisplayPort coupler. So far, so good. Perfect signal with the booster set to minimum power. Pressing the + about 5-6 times actually causes signal loss!

Did not work
I needed this to boost a post-splitter HDMI connection for 50 feet. It did not work, with or without external power and regardless of switch position. Screen was blank and no signal detected. For a shorter length of 3 feet, it worked as well as a pass-through connector, but no discernible increase in signal strength. Monitor and cable tested okay with direct connection to video source. Splitter tested okay with shorter lengths. Since this booster didn't work as advertised, I am returning it.

Worth the purchase
Receive the this device yesterday and finally was able to do some testing today, as info live broadcasting for events and had been having issues with not able to get multiple cameras far way from switching board without paying mega bucks for high pro grade multi camera switch board and linking system. For $25 did not have extremely high hopes but boy was I wrong. This things is built solid. Plugged it in and started testing. First was with a 50ft cord, then a 100ft, then 150ft. Worked perfectly. Picture quality never dropped off.Without a shadow of a doubt worth every penny. In fact I'll be purchasing many many of these as back ups( as I'll update this review later as in I don't know yet how long it will last) and/or to go even further distances. Also it works as said....you don't have to have a power source which makes it that much better.

Solved the issue, but they don't make it easy
Ultimately this signal booster solved the problem I was having with the signal dropping out on my TV, but the lack of documentation and lack of a power cord made it as much luck as anything.I have all my electronics housed in a rack in the closet of my office. This allows for a clean TV install in the family room with nothing visible. The TV is reached via a 50 foot HDMI cable running under the house. There are also ~5 foot HDMI cables at either end to reach the TV and DVR. My old TV was fine with this setup, but the new one was dropping signal constantly.I got the repeater without buying a power adapter (it doesn't come with one but can accept one) as many people said it worked for them without it. My application seemed similar so I decided to start there. The device does not come with instructions, but they can be found online. First I tried connecting the device at the TV end, which is what the instructions say to do. The HDMI does deliver some power as the blue light turned on, but it started flashing fast. There was nothing in the instructions as to what this means. Signal was nonexistent with the amplifier connected, which was worse than the drops I was getting. Wasn't feeling confident at this point. Then I decided to connect it before the 50 foot run. The manual says it should be at the other end (run before the amplifier should be equal to or longer than the run after), but at this point I was just going through the possibilities. Had the same result...flashing blue light but no signal on the TV at all. This is where the luck comes in. I happened to have a 4 port ethernet switch that wasn't in use and realized that it took the same type of power adapter as the amplifier. I still had the amplifier plugged in before the cable run. I set the signal boost dial to the max of 10 (just a guess) and plugged in the power. The blue light went solid, my TV saw the signal and I haven't seen it drop once since.I would give this product 5 stars for the solution working, but the hoops they force consumers to jump through by not including a power adapter as well as the lack of documentation on the light blinking drop this down a notch. It does seem like others have had success without power, but for me this thing was a worthless paperweight until I plugged it in.

Works great with Ultrawide 100Hz Monitor with a 12 ft Displayport cable run.
I was setting up my computer with a 16 ft Displayport cable and I found that the image flickered and went out. The cable was nothing special, good fair quality but it was simply not able to handle the bandwidth. I turned the refresh rate down to 60 Hz and that worked without any issues. In looking for solutions I tried locating an "active" cable but the reviews were not great. So I decided to try this. I was impressed by the small size, all metal build quality and ease of use. I got two 6 ft cables so that the device would be placed halfway. I think this is an important step; make sure that, if possible, you put this unit somewhere in the middle of your long run. It works flawlessly. I am very happy with this.

This solved the problem
I had some while back installed through the walls and attic a 50 foot HDMI cable to send movies and internet content to my media room. Everything worked fine , but one day it just stopped getting a useable signal to the media room. I checked all the connections the signal was just too weak to be detected. I considered getting a wireless HDMI setup. (no way was I going to go back in the walls and replace my cable). I bought this devise and now it works again and did not need to use an extra supply.
