This is a must own book for all wooden model ship builders
If you are new to wooden model ship building, this book can help you to learn the skills needed to complete the building of a beautiful ship model from a kit. The second chapter on Resources is the most comprehensive of any book that I own about ship building; and it alone is worth the price of the book as it will reduce hours spent seeking reference materials. This book is loaded with detailing ideas to to build a museum quality ship model. Some topics include coppering the hull (and a simple method to weathering the copper), making realistic paper sails, planking the hull and deck, and stropping a block for the rigging. Here are the chapters in the book:1. The Fun of Ship Models2. Resources - Research, Kits, Semi-kits, Timbering Sets and More3. Essential Tools4. Solid Hull Modeling -5. Single Plank-on- Bulkhead Modeling -6. Double Plank-on Bulkhead Modeling -7. Semi-Scratch Double Plank-on-Bulkhead -8. Plank-on-Framed Modeling -9. Masts and Yards10. Standing Rigging11. Running rigging12. Finishing Up and InspirationI also recommend this book just to view and learn from the hundreds of beautifully detailed color photographs!
