It's an easy way to sharpen a 2mm lead. If you are an artist, you can use sandpaper boards--available in drafting and art supply areas of your favorite stationary or art store--to mold the lead tip, but generally speaking these little items work very well at sharpening, again, a 2mm lead. At the price of these little items, though, a KUM Automatic Long Point sharpener is more versatile, the one with the 2mm sharpener included at one end located along the long side.

Yes. It was designed for 2mm leads used in 2mm technical pencils (or lead holders) and will sharpen all the levels of hardness, B, HB, F, and H.
