High quality product. I had a retractable hose unit in the past that was junk (Not from this manufacturer. It was a different brand.) This unit mounts into the ground so it stays put. My old one rolled on wheels so it would move when trying to retract. This reels up the hose perfectly every time. The mechanism in the old unit would not move side to side smoothly when rewinding. This is made of high quality materials that is sturdy. The other unit was made of cheap flimsy plastic. I used teflon tape when attaching my hose to the quick disconnect to make sure the threads or gasket on my hose would not leak. If I did not, this could be an easy way to blame the disconnects for leaking when it would be the fault of the hose that I used to connect to the unit. (I installed the unit about ten feet away from the hose shut off.). Everything worked perfectly. Not a single leak. The thick solid steel pipe included to twist the unit to drive the stake into the ground worked perfectly and was necessary. The stake that twists into the ground is very large to make sure the unit is secure. It would have been impossible to twist in the stake all the way without it. Ones screwed into the ground it is extremely secure so it does not move when pulling out the house or retracting the hose.

Works perfect. Easy to install. Gardening is so much easier.

Season 2 and still working. I have another hose reel in the yard and it is a manually rewind. This auto rewind feature is so much nicer. Makes watering a breeze. It was easy to install using their in-ground spike connector. It also has quick connects for attaching the hose. The setup makes it easy to remove for the winter. Overall, this reel has been a reliable and convenient.

Surprisingly really nice. It also comes with a bunch of quick releases you can use. Its fairly easy to get it into the ground and really cleans up the look The self retracting works easily 90% of the time but the other 10% still fairly easy. I'm happy likely going to get another one.

It works well easy assembly. At first it seemed like it would be flimsy and may come off the ground when pulling the hose since it’s o my supported by one spike and the reel and hose is heavy, but the once installed it worked well, sturdy enough, no wiggling, no problems. The only thing I don’t like is that when you close the water from the nozzle provided it drips slowly. You have to make a point to make sure it’s tightly closed to avoid drips. It comes with quick multiple plastic quick connects.

Great idea, installed easy, pretty sturdy. But lasted 3 days and then had to figure out how to put nozzle connection back. It went back on easy! I installed in less then 30 minutes! Which I had this 30 years ago.

Love this. Makes my life easier and more efficient not having to bend down to roll up the hose. Easy to install and easier to use. No leaks, no tangles. Just wish the hose was a little wider for some added water pressure. The size of the hose restrict the water pressure.

Gardena definitely knows how to make premium gear and this hose reel is no exception. The build quality is top-notch and the retracting mechanism feels incredibly smooth and solid. It’s the kind of product you look at and immediately think “Yep this is German engineering.” That said, if you’re using the ground spike version be ready for a bit of extra work. In my case I had to use some cement around the base to keep it completely stable. Without it, it had a slight wobble and leaned a little when the hose was fully extended. Once cemented in though, it’s rock solid and looks really sleek in the yard. I also own the wall-mounted version and honestly I think that one’s the better choice if you can mount it. It’s just more secure and feels easier to use day-to-day. Still this freestanding one does the job beautifully once it’s reinforced. Gardena continues to set the standard in quality and even with the little extra effort I’d definitely buy from them again.

Attaches easily, allows easy watering, rolling up is OK. Slight downside on installation - the plastic base is not perfectly made, there are NO screw threads or inserts, so impossible to fix the two parts with the screws provided! I had to place threaded inserts myself. Also, make sure that the entire metal spike is in the ground, so make sure that there is nothing underneath.

Amazing, if you consider getting a garden hose. Don't look further, either get this one with the spike or get the one that mounts to the wall. This product is such high quality, I describe it as the Porsche GT3 RS of the gardening world. So simple, yet so quality.
