A Twin Is to Hug

I almost didn’t buy this book after reading a review titled ‘Includes typical negative behaviour illustrations’ but I’m so glad I did. It is beautifully illustrated, the narrative of the book is positive and the imagery diverse and inclusive. The illustrations reflect a wide a spectrum of emotions and behaviours which makes this book perfect for reading to small children while also encouraging dialogue and discussion. In the review mentioned above the writer referenced a page where the phrase “A twin is to hug or to kiss or to shove” I have included a photo of the page in my review so that you can see the context in which it was used and understand it was chosen to maintain the rhythm and rhyme of the narrative. In this context the ‘shove’ was one of encouragement not confrontational or aggressive and although maybe not ideal because of it’s usual context was clearly chosen to rhyme with the word ‘love’ on the following page.

It’s perfect for young ones. Explains who twins are to each other and what a strong twin-relationship is. My fav bits are the ones about sharing and taking turns. The illustrations are also beautiful!
