Good quality rite in rain Geology notebook.

This would be my second Rite in the Rain Geological Field Book. If your doing anything geology field related, it is the perfect rite in the rain. It is compact so you can put it in a field vest with no issues. It is light, yet sturdy. I sometimes use the spine of the book to move dirt and rocks out of the way and it withstands the punishment. It can also be used as a writing surface if need be, and the covers will never warp, bend, break, or in anyway let you down. My first rite in the rain was purchased back in 2008 when I took field geology. I used it all throughout field and then some for other geo field trips and never had an issue. The reference items in the back are by far the best part of this rite in the rain. Others that I have seen do not come with this, and when you are in pinch out in the field this thing comes in handy. Need to do a quick QAP? No problem. Need to know relative compositions? No problem! Are you a noob and forgot you geological time scale? Got it right in the back. Need a scale for pictures? Look no further. Forgot what size grains qualify it as gravel, cobbles, or a boulder? Just look in the back mijo, its all there! Oh yeah, and it really does live up to its name: you can write in the rain all you want with no problems, kickin butt the whole time. Don't waste your time with anyother size rite in the rain: 8 1/2 x 11 is way to big to carry around and is in no way as sturdy as this one, and it doesnt come with any of the reference pages. The small three ring binder type rite in the rains are clumsy, and you need to replace individual sheets.No thank you. If you are in school getting your geology degree (great field by the way), or even out in the field working and making money, its a perfect companion for taking notes. Buy this and you will not be sad.

I have had a few different field notebooks over the course of my students and although rite in this rain is slightly more expensive than many alternative notebooks, the various bundled appendix pages they include make it def worth it. The book is well made, hard covered and held tightly by quality stitching. I cant comment on the ability to write in the rain (as I prefer not to ink in the field and choose to use a pencil) I can verify that the pages are water-resistant after seeing a friend drop their field book in a muddy stream. Additional ref pages include; dunham limestone classification chart, grain chart, 20 cm ruler and various sedimentary structure ref guides. Essential quick ref for students new to geology who are out in the field. Note: Rite in the rain make quite a few different models of notebooks for different industries/fields of study. As far as I am aware, 540F is specifically for geology and includes the relevant appendix pages.

Ich benutze nun dieses Feldbuch schon über einen längeren Zeitraum und möchte eine kurze Beschreibung verfassen: Das Feldbuch ist nicht gerade billig, jedoch ist es sein Preis wert. (+) wasserfest, d.h. man kann damit auch im Gelände Notizen machen, während es regnet. Ich vermeide aber solche Situationen. (+) ein robustes Buch, keine billig Verarbeitung (+) was mir persönlich sehr gut gefällt ist das Referenzmaterial, welches in 20 Seiten zu finden ist. Das bedeutet man hat hinten im Buch alle möglichen Klassifikationen und Symbolerklärungen usw. Diese sind aber in englisch verfasst. Ich liste einige davon auf: Geologic Time Scale; Gelogic Map Symbol; Soil Classification, Clay; Sand; Grain-size Scales; und weiteres Material, welches im Gelände sehr nützlich sein kann. Es ist sehr praktisch, falls man im Gelände ist und verschiedene Sand-, Ton-, Vulkanit-... Klassifikation im Buch hat. Das Buch enthält auch ein sogenanntes Photo Scale, welches man aus dem Buch herausnehmen kann.
