The Practical Sanskrit-English Dictionary

Must have for all sanskrit students
The Apte dictionary which has been there for more than a century has been reprinted very nicely. The print is very good and readable, unlike many other earlier editions. The appendices are very useful, especially the prosody section. I would recommend this edition to any interested sanskrit learners without any reservations.

Worth every penny!
Since there weren't any good digital apps to translate Samskritam, I decided to buy a physical dictionary rather than skimming PDFs. I was looking for hardbound for durability and this edition from Parmial Publication is surprisingly well made and the clothing finish on the covers makes it look pleasing.Unlike other dictionaries, this one's font size is enlarged and very comfortable to read and the book is heavy and gargantuan in size.I would say packaging was fair from Priority Books(the seller I bought from).

Good book but small text
It would be great if publishers can make the font bigger and charger higher. This is hard to read.

Enlarged / Readable version
After research I had found V.S. Apte is a good dictionary. but many people had complained about small font. This is certainly an enlarged & a readable version for me with a sight. As this is a big book, I was worried about binding quality, and it is top notch. Cover is nice as well. I have been using this for a month now. I can say I have found 90% of what I was looking for. sometimes you have to try few things like if you have anunasikas in the words and cannot find them try the same word with anusvaras instead. similarly, for words with 'shra' try 'sha'... etc. I am getting hang of it, but I have also not found few words. but the size that this book is already, not sure how much more they can add. overall v. v. happy!

Absolutely unreadable
I wonder whether the book was published to be readable. Absolute junk of paper quality and microscopic letters. Publishers should declare font size used in book detail so that readers can make an informed decision.

A monumental dictionary well worth the price!
It is a big dictionary with really tiny print somewhat difficult to read if your eye sight is not so great like mine. The typesetting is also quite old so the print on a few pages has not come out well leading to more difficulty in reading. But most of the words you look for when learning the language are all there and there are a few useful articles in 6 Appendix dealing with topics such as Metres, Prosody, Import Sanskrit Writers, Geographical Names Of Ancient India, Sanskrit Maxims, List of old Sanskrit dictionaries etc. The cover is pure plastic. It is a good dictionary overall and I am already finding it useful. It is a very comprehensive book of over 1850 pages and I don't feel the need of buying another dictionary. I am only a Sanskrit learner so cannot comment about whether it is useful for the advanced reader. For the price, it is an exceptional deal and MBD deserves my appreciation for printing and distributing this classic. I hope they will consider increasing the font size for a future edition and improving the clarity of the print overall for an eyestrain-free reading experience.

Small fonts
One of the best subjective. But the printing is in such small fonts that makes reading very difficult. Most of the users of this dictionary are senior citizens. You could have increased the font size even if it means a larger volume at an increased price

神経質な方は要考慮
品物に関しては、他の方が述べているように、長期に渡っての使用に耐えうるかと云うと、いささか難があるのは同意見です。他方で、出版年と乱丁については、個体差のように思います。他の方がレビューで、乱丁があるとしていた2007年版が私も届きましたが、仰っている箇所に乱丁等はございませんでした。いずれにせよ、どのような状態のものが届くかは、博打なので、気にされる方は臨川書店の物をお求めになるのが無難でしょう。

CAN ANYONE HELP!
The content looks amazing but the sanskrit words are not romanfied as in words like samsara, sattivic, puja etc. Only the explanation is in English. I require a book that romanises the words so I can get a deeper meaning - as I don't read sanskrit. Pity.
