I Finally Found the HP Laser Printer I Have Been Waiting For
I have purchased several different HP printers over the years. Each one of them always had the classic HP issues... Hard to set up, get the USB cable out because wi-fi don't work, screwy software, HP support was basically non-existent, but when the rare case popped up where you actually did get ahold of a semi-live person, their English skills quickly stole your joy that someone actually answered the phone, and your issue was likely not solved satisfactorily. And print quality was always hit or miss. Good ole HP, right? But I have always subscribed to brand loyalty, and despite those classic and ridiculous HP issues, I stuck with the brand. So, I needed a small laser printer that could also do copy/scan, didn't cost a small fortune, and hopefully didn't require a rocket scientist degree to set up. I liked what I saw in the MFP M140we on its Amazon page, I was curious about the new HP+ program, and since the price was definitely right, I pulled the trigger and once again bought an HP laser printer. I am always skeptical about buying HP, which I know is silly. Just go buy another brand. But I don't personally believe other printer brands are much different with all these above listed issues, and therefore, I have always just stuck with buying HP. And for the first time ever, I am a truly satisfied customer. This little printer just blew me away in how incredibly easy it was to set up, including an amazingly easy wi-fi connection. The HP+ Smart app can be found in either the Microsoft or Apple stores and it has revolutionized the way I look at an HP printer. It simply works by taking all the stress away from setting up an HP printer. It set up an account, connected to wi-fi, then walked me through removing all the transportation locking devices. I also chose to utilize the 6-month trial of HP+, which will automatically send out a new cartridge set to arrive well before I run out. You simply select your monthly printing needs from 50 to 1500 pages per month, set up your card to pay the corresponding fee, and the app takes it from there. I chose the 50 pages per month, which will cost $1.99/month after the 6-month free trial. (I believe you get up to 1500 pages per month in the trial, and it will keep you stocked with cartridges.) There is no fee other than that monthly charge. Shipping is free and there is also a program to recycle your used cartridge. The printer checks the cartridge level without any input from you. So, I will never run out for $1.99/month. It does have an unused carryover, and you can change your plan at any time, or just cancel altogether, if for some reason don't like the program. You also get another year warranty if you take the HP+ option, which gives this little $170 laser printer a 2-year warranty. Be aware this printer will only accept HP cartridges. No other brand will work. The print speed and quality are excellent, the scans and copying have been flawless thus far. The HP+ Smart has taken over for the bad English, mostly non-existent customer support, and I just think this is one heck of a deal on an HP printer designed to be a simple machine that will adequately take care of my home printing needs. And it won't let me run out of cartridges either, which in my book, makes this the absolute best HP printer I have ever personally owned. It is seriously hard to find any faults. I am extremely satisfied.

It won't work for long
I probably printed 50 pages in about a year. It stopped feeding... error 03 paper jam... Restarted printer, reseated paper, reinstalled, cleaned the roller, checked for jams 400 times... is not (and never was) jammed but it refuses to pick up paper and feed it. Says jammed. Spent hours troubleshooting. The HP smart app also sucks. Requires you to have an account for a stupid piece of printer software. When running it can use ridiculous amounts of system resources, more CPU and RAM than many AAA gaming titles, and will slow down many computers. To set the thing up on WiFi you have to download a stupid smart phone app (instead of having a screen with settings like in the old days)... I mean those settings screens are much simpler and cost the MFP $1.00 to install the tiny screen and a couple buttons. I'd glady pay $5.00 extra for NOT having to control with a smart phone app. I am sick of everything needing to be another buggy app on my phone. Cheap MFP/ home printers have always been problematic, but things are getting worse and not better. My old Samsung laser printer was literally 10+ years old but couldn't work with new Windows11 driver support and sharing the printer (print management) as print server from a local computer was deprecated for the most part by Microsoft in 2020 and that Samsung model didn't have network or WiFi - so I had to buy a WiFi capable printer to make direct printing easier... so that's why I bought this, the cheapest monchrome laser I could find with WiFi, and it was a mistake. My last printer lasted 10 years. This one didn't last 10 pages. This thing won't last, and I hate everything about it.

Great little printer
Finally decided to spend a little extra money on a laserjet after years of fighting inkjet printers and I'll never go back. The M140we is dimensionally hardly any bigger than a standard desktop inkjet. Print speeds/quality is great. I had minimal issues connecting the printer to my wifi network and antiquated windows 7 operating system on my ancient desktop. The Hp smart app seems to operate nicely will all relevant controls/printer information, a smart phone and or modern operating system is pretty much required for the setup and operation of this printer, although you can do without one or the other if you know your way around either. Basically use the hp smart app on your phone to connect the printer to your wifi network then set up the printer on your desktop as a wireless network printer. The printer will then install its neccesary drivers to function from your desktop. Due to the age of my operating system (windows 7) I had trouble downloading the printer software from the HP website as instructed, but it ultimately proved inconsequential as once i had to printer connected to my wifi network via the HP smart app, the printer took care of itself. Install done on old HP desktop and newer Samsung phone, even works good with wifes iPhone once I downloaded the HP smart app.

Very good product
Very good product, In fact, the printer I am replacing is an HP printer that I have had for over 20 years. New printer had the Compact size I was looking for, but it didn’t work for me. Could not get it to finish set-up even though I spent several hours on my own and over an hour with HP technician. I did not realize that even though it has a hard wire capability the technician explained you cannot use it. There was a problem with connection through my internet provider I was able to connect to the Wi-Fi network in the building but not the internet. Decided to return the printer and look for one that is in the same price range that I will be able to hard wire connect directly to my computer.

Exactly what I needed!
I'm done with inkjet printers! I got fed up with having to purchase expensive ink, then to have some of the cartridges dry out from lack of use since I do mostly B&W printing. I decided that a B&W laser printer for the shipping labels I often print was the way to go. The HP Laserjet MFP M140we was exactly what I needed. It has a very small footprint and looks great on the top of my bookcase. But more importantly, it has excellent print quality and is very fast. I like that it has the scan and copy capabilities too, since I sometimes need those features. Setup was very easy and took less then 10 minutes using my smart phone. I have no idea why some people had so much trouble and took hours to get it working. Just follow the instructions and it will go very smoothly. So far, I'm very happy with it and give it two thumbs up. It's a great price too, so go for it!

DO not buy it!
I copied the review what describes all my problems with that device! “Many of the positive reviews on this printer are misleading or outright wrong. First, you cannot use this printer if you install it as you would any other printer, using your system dialogue or the built-in add printer functions. If you attempt to do this, the printer will limit how many pages you can print to a few test pages, or will fail to find a correct driver (in the case of Wi-Fi direct install). You must set up an account with HP and use either the phone app or the HP smart software when setting up the printer to avoid it limiting printing capacity. If I knew HP was pulling this gimmick I would have never purchased it. Now, after you get it installed through HP's app on one system, it seems you can install it on additional systems without using HPs app or software. I was able to install on two computers successfully (kind of) with one using the HP Smart software and the other using just the normal windows add printer function. It is difficult for me to comment on the quality of the printer itself because I have hardly been able to use it. After figuring out the initial install it seemed to print great. It is a fast printer with good print quality. But we only used it for a few documents. More problems started as we attempted to use it again. When not in use the printer would go offline, which is not abnormal for a printer. For most printers they will turn back on either automatically when a document is added to the print queue or may require pushing the power button to wake it up. This printer simply stays offline. I have spent hours trying windows direct print options, diagnosing, as well as using the HP Smart software and cannot get the printer to come out of offline status to print. I uninstalled every instance of the printer from Windows and reinstalled the HP Smart app but the app cannot locate the printer”. (c) DO NOT BUY IT!

A nice small laser printer
I work from home and occasionally print document, so a small laser printer will fit for my purpose. I followed the instructions and set up the printer with my work laptop/ personal laptop/ iphone without any issues. I do have a problem to login to my HP account with my work laptop because of a VPN issue (even though I am not connected to a VPN). However I can still print without any problem. I just cannot scan since it requires you to login. I can do the scan with my personal laptop so it is not a big deal. So far I am happy with my purchase!

Hard to set up wifi
Bought this because I have a Canon printer that WILL NOT allow me to print in B/W only. It eats up all the grey ink and I have to replace it every 3 weeks. MAKE SURE YOUR NEXT COLOR PRINTER WILL ALLOW YOU TO USE ONLY THE BLACK CARTRIDGE. This is a nice little printer but I could not set up WiFi. I have a screaming machine but it would not connect to the printer. Had no problem with my Canon. After 3 hours I called tech support who took control of my computer and spent 30 minutes doing this and that until we got disconnected. Could have been my cell service. Who knows. I was not about to go through that again so went to Youtube and all the setups I saw were done using a cell phone so I thought, what the heck, and set it up that way. It worked the first time and connected all my iPads, cell phones, and my computer.
