A corvette is 90% of the performance of a Ferrari, but some , like me, insist on the latter because of the name exclusivity .
The reason for the midpack rating was that the tremolo was sub par (sorry quilter) and the reverb was just OK, but in reality but the audience won't notice. The tone doesn't match tube boutique amps out there like my Dr Z and Divided By 13 IN STUDIO.... But, being a weekly gigging guitarist, I've come to the conclusion that in a live situation this amp it's a very convincing tone machine. It also, I must admit, has really decent "tube -like" feel, and it also has turned a few heads in disbelief that it's not a tube amp the're hearing. In addition the technology is very promising and mister Quilter seems to really care about guitar tone. Much better then almost all of the solid state amps out there. The current amp modeling amps sound just as good.... but for prices the Fractal and Kemper offerings ask you might as well get a real hand wired tube amp. Also, there are a lot of entry level tube amps like egnater and peavey that the quilter just plain trounces. My point is that this amp is nice for a light weight alternative to the pricey boutique amps that can cover a lot of ground. If you are a tone snob like me you might not be as satisfied, but even good friends of mine thought the quilter sounded amazing. I must admit, I got some pretty cool tones. One thing I noticed..., the quilter sounded even better through my speaker cabinets. Another point that I can verify is that tube amps have upkeep... re-tubing can pricey. The quilter has a reputation of being extremely reliable , and admittedly, consistent in tone ( vs tubes, which wear out). I did return this amp because of my pricey tube amps . In hindsight maybe I should sell my tube amps and just continue to enjoy the quilter amps.

crap
Do not believe the hype......This thing sounds terrible. could go on and on. Thin, synthetic, crappy unusable effects. The best I can say is when played completely clean it sounds ok, but not great or even very good. Even good effects can't save it. My Blackstar HTVenue2 sounded 10 times better and includes a cab and 4 switchable and very usable channels. Im using a PRS DGT so it sure aint the guitars problem. Will never buy blind again. lesson learned.

versatile and excellent sounding
This amp is worth its weight in gold. I love this thing. It covers everything I play (jazz, funk, r&b, church music, etc.). The trem and verb are both excellent and the voicings provide a wide variety of tones.
