A touching story!
Thank you GP Putnam’s Sons for the advanced copy of Just Haven’t Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens.Genre: Contemporary Romance/FictionPub. Date: November 9, 2021Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“I think sometimes your generation gets caught up in the wrapping paper of love.”“Maybe it was easier to be happy for other people when I felt my own soulmate might be just around the corner, but I keep turning corners, and no one is ever there.”I loved Sophie Cousens first book, This Time Next Year, to the point of having almost exhausted my options for recommending it to everyone I know. Because of this, my expectations for her second book were very high. Just Haven’t Met You Yet not only met my expectations but far exceeded them. There are so many reasons I loved this story, but let me summarize a few of them for you. First, I absolutely loved Laura and Ted as main characters. I loved that Laura describes herself as a Rachel from friends, and that her optimism about life is not (completely) dampened by her circumstances or her mom’s passing. My heart broke when Laura mentions wishing she had hung on to just one of the paper crowns her mom made her when they “played” in the backyard, and then it broke again when Laura described living through her dreams to make sure her memories of her mom stayed intact. Laura was a dynamic, fluid, emotional normal, relatable woman I identified with on so many levels. I loved her humor, her resilience, and her spark.Enter Ted, the surly cab driver with a much deeper backstory, and be still my heart. While Jasper might be the fantasy, Ted is surely the dream…the dream of those quiet, confident eyes, the patience, and the fire simmering just below the surface hot enough to make your toes curl. Where can I find a Ted, and how soon can he be here? Ted was emotional, angsty, sarcastic, sweet, and always, solid as a rock. Even when he didn’t understand his feelings, he was solid. Everyone woman dreams of a Ted, and Sophie Cousens captured this dream to perfection.Second, I thoroughly enjoyed Ted’s dad, Gerry. I loved the inclusion of a character living with Parkinson’s Disease, and I thought Sophie captured the downside of this debilitating disease with care and consideration. She did a fabulous job balancing the downsides of the disease with Gerry’s consistently positive attitude. Gerry is smart and seasoned as a secondary character, and the support he provides to those around him as his own health is failing is remarkable. Every person in the world needs a Gerry in their corner. As for Suki and Belinda, they can both kick rocks. As secondary characters, I thought they were well-developed and interesting, but I did not like them at all…which I think was the point their development. I thought both characters added an interesting amount of tension to the story, and every story needs a villain or two.I could not ask for a better follow up to This Time Next Year, and I will be recommending Just Haven’t Met You Yet to everyone I know!

Against all Odds
This is such a great, feel good story. Laura returned to the place her parents met, but she also learned it wasn't all rainbows and sunshine as she was led to believe. So much self discovery and learning that people aren't perfect made for a great read. Laura gained a sense of maturity, which was so great because I found her rose colored glasses a bit off-putting at the beginning. I loved all the musical references and laughed out loud several times. Sometimes romcoms are cheesy, but this one managed to keep it under control. Reading this book was just another day in paradise.

Lines worth high-lighting
I seldom highlight lines in romance novels, but I found several worth noting in this book. In addition to lovely sentiments and deep thoughts, this novel captures more than just the budding relationship between two people; it also weaves in aspects of elderly family members who are in decline, grief and loss issues, broken familial relationships, moving on and starting over. All of this with a light hand, humor, and sensitivity. The secondary characters are memorable and have depth. The protagonists are good company and are refreshingly honest with each other. The romance seems ready to wrap up before the 50% mark, but then there are funny complications that allow the reader to spend more time on the page with the heroine as she navigates past heartaches and discovers more about herself. The story ends, with another line worth highlighting, at the 92% point. The rest is acknowledgements, bio, and a couple of scenes from another of the author’s books.Problems I had with the story—there are lots of British terms with which I am unfamiliar, and the context clues were lacking to clarify what some of them meant. Lots of places are described, but the imagery is not immersive; more sensory details would help. The boss is a horrible person, and no one should work in such a toxic environment. Also, refrigerators make terribly dangerous hiding places as a person can suffocate inside. There are comma errors, typos, and a few grammar issues, but these do not prevent understanding of the author’s intent. There are a few moments with profanity, mentions of sexual relations with few details, and some alcohol consumption. And some great kissing.Overall, the story is delightful, full of lovely wisdom, humor, and the protagonists are worth spending time with.

I found it boring
Laura ends up in Jersey recreating pictures from her parents' love story, but chasing after a man whose suitcase she grabbed on accident, and then fell in love with the idea of him. But what if what she thgought was real was a lie, and what she wants isn't an idea. Here's what I didn't like: present tense was clunky AF. It started off with a good show of it, but it quickly turned boring once she ended up in Jersey and summarizing things while we were on scene with the characters sometimes, didn't help. Just became really boring in the end. I'd hoped that laura would continue with her spitfire self when she'd yelled at Ted the first night, but she didn't. She was a push over. Here's what I liked: the premise, it was edited and proofread.Overall, boring.

What a fun read!
I was looking for a book that would be an easy, suspense-free read. Well, okay, there is some suspense but not enough to provoke a panic attack. The story is light and fun with enough tension to hold it together. A great weekend book!

Romance adorável
A história de romance água com açúcar. Bem escrito e apaixonante. Não há nenhuma grande surpresa. Gostei de conhecer os personagens. Também achei interessante as perguntas ao final do livro, para reflexão.

Rom-com escapism at its best - LOVE!
Been wanting to read this for ages as I love her other books. It’s such a great story- all the love and sparkle but also hilarious. I will never look at a coat alcove the same way again… ;) Really recommend an escape to Jersey shores through the pages of this book.

Adding Sphie Cousins to my new favorite author list.
She does justice to the rom-com trope no spice needed with a good story line. The book has so much to offer and I like how it didn't give much out on the cover glance.Such a comfy read ;-;Also the map was so unexpected and adorable. Adding visiting Jersey to my list of places <3
