AT THE PRICE I DO NOT THINK I COULD HAVE DONE BETTER - This drawknife meets my needs perfectly
I had been looking for a tool, in this case a drawknife, for specific use in making canes; a hobby of mine for a number of years now. I was also looking for a draw knife that did not require a mortgage on my home or requiring me to sell my first born into bondage. When I ordered this knife I had some trepidations - primarily due to the relative low cost. Hey, I did not want to spend all that much, but on the other hand I did not want a hunk of junk on my hands - goodness knows I have enough problems making my canes and I have a barn and storage sheds filled with enough junk as it is. Anyway, I am delighted with this product and it fits my specific needs perfectly. I work with sticks. These sticks are very seldom over two or three inches in diameter. I primarily work with four kinds of wood; hickory, oak, sassafras and walnut - depending upon what sort of cane I am building. I use walnut some, a bit of cherry and upon rare, rare occasions, cedar. I needed this took to remove bark, knots and humps and bumps from limbs and twigs. The wood stock I use has always been cured for at least two years. Again, this tool is perfect for that job. The blade is only five inches wide but the flared handles give my hands plenty of room thereby avoiding knuckle scrapes. The handles are made of very light wood, which is the only reservation I have about this tool, but I suppose time will tell in that area. The tips of the handles come to a flared sort of ending so your hand dose not slip off very easily. The tool is light but not too light. The blade is bowed...again, another feature I was looking for. The blade of this particular drawknife is just a bit flexible which is a feature I was specifically looking for. My work is more art or craft like that would be required in heavy duty building and the flexible blade allows me to make cuts and maneuver the blade quite well. Now buyer take warning! This is an extremely sharp tool! I was actually amazed and extremely grateful when I opened the package and found it had a nice sturdy leather holster. I have used this tool on all the woods mentioned above and I average out about two hours of steady work before the blade needs to be touched up a bit on the stone. This of course depends upon the hardness of the wood I am working on at any given moment. Do be careful though when using this knife - a slight slip could cause you to loose quite a chunk of your body real fast! After use I always clean the blade well and apply a thin coat of oil which in turn, over time, has oiled the leather sheath and I have had no problems with rusting - a possibility I think quite likely if this tool were not maintained correctly. The sharpening is quite easy. I use a stone and light oil and the blades stays almost razor shape with little hassle. If I were doing heavy duty work on larger stock I would want a larger and heavier drawknife but for the purpose I am using it for it is perfect. I might also not that this thing is made in the United States...this is comforting. Truth be told I have had rather poor luck with many of the tools I have purchased that were made in China and I try my best to avoid them. It should also be noted that the company that is offering this knife here on Amazon was quite efficient and the shipping was extremely fast. I am completely happy with this drawknife! Very nice tool. It is very sharp right out of ...
Very nice tool. It is very sharp right out of the package and it is very easy to keep sharp. If you use a good strop you can make it even sharper than from the factory. Be careful or you will cut yourself! This is truly a 5 star item except for a couple of small details. The sheath that comes with it is very stiff - but that will probably resolve over time and a few coats of oil to darken it and loosen it up. The one issue that won't change is the large snaps that it uses. The steel snaps protrude into the sheath on both sides and it is very easy to hit the edge of the draw knife on the snaps as you put it into the sheath, and as I mentioned above, because it is so stiff it is difficult to open it wide with one hand while trying to put the draw knife into the sheath with the other while also trying not to nick your fingers with the razor sharp blade or nick the blade on the snaps. A minor issue though and do not hesitate to buy this knife. A great tool for the price. Maybe not as cool as a "vintage" iron draw knife from elsewhere but it is a very useful and economical addition to your tool kit. I will probably re-do the handles at some point in time, but that is just a personal thing for me. The ones that come with it are entirely usable just not as aesthetically pleasing as I would like. But again, that is just me. Try this tool - you will like it!

Sharp
I haven't used this as it is a gift. But it was made in America and sharp enough to shave the hair clean off my hand. seems like the blade is nice and flexible. and comes with a leather sheath.

Great for delicate and precise carving
This drawknife is made out of thin steel for delicate and precise carving. It's fairly flexible and has nice comfortable handles. You are not going to cut a axe handle with this one. It's more for refining details

No shavehorse needed
I live in an apartment so I don't have a workshop. A normal 2 handle draw knife needs a shavehorse to hold the wood while you cut. This one is small and 1 handed, which I use for shaving bark off my walking sticks. Flex cut is a good brand, I have a set of tools for carving stuff. Never needed to sharpen yet, just leather to smooth out burs.

I very rarely review stuff but thought this item was worth a few words. This little knife works like a hot knife through butter when de-barking logs. It's incredibly sharp and ergonomically well designed. I can see why there might be a slight issue with the handles coming off under heavy use as they are not fixed in place with screws/ bolts but so far mine seem snugly fitted and show no sign of movement. The genuine leather storage pouch is useful and all in all I would recommend it. Added bonus is it's made in the US and not China!!
