Stumped ... Why Only 3 Projects? Consider This Book More Of A "Gallery"
If you are new to stumpwork and raised emboidery, this may not be the best book for you.If you are an advanced needleworker, the same may apply.Sorry to say that this long-awaited book is curiously both too long winded and chaotic, while being too skimpy and elemental at the same time. The cover promises a trifecta of techniques, projects, and pure inspiration. It disappoints in each category.Saddest of all is that there are only 3 projects in the entire book. Each is uninspiring, spread across far too many pages, and hardly worthy of their own elaborate "mood board".Regarding techniques, common basic stitches are provided. They are adequate, but better, fuller compilations of stitches exist. Shisha - the attachment of small objects - is introduced. But the 1 instructed example results in a finished item not entirely worthy of the Royal School of Needlework. Needlelace Brussels stitches are given only 2 pages. Wire shaping is given 4 pages, but they are hardly sufficient for a beginner to make any of the accompanying lovely adornments. Additional stitches are presented in each of the 3 projects, adding to the disorganization. The exceptionally brief index is a requirement for finding specific stitches. As for inspiration, the book could have succeeded if instructions had been given for more of the beautiful items showcased. Instead, it is frustrating more than inspiring. Yes, the abundant photographs are exquisite and provocative. But the 2- or 3-sentence captions are too broad.Higher skill levels, additional resources, and a crafty imagination are needed to get the most out of what is and is not in this heavily gallery-oriented book.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about Raised embroidery or stump work. The instructions are detailed with more than ample photographs and samples. Enjoy!

Very inspiring stitch book!
I really love this book! I pre-ordered it and I've been perusing it since I got it. The stitch directions are quite clear and the stitches? Fascinating! It's a wonderful book and it's a great addition to my embroidery library.

A wonderful book with lively pictures and step-by-step guidance
A wonderful book with lively pictures and step-by-step guidance! Not as nice as having someone with you or watching a video, but it allows you to work at your own pace. Lovely!

Exciting Next Step in My Hand Embroidery Adventure
I just learned hand embroidery last year when taking an embroidery class using felted wool. Absolutely love this book and an anxious to try all the amazing ideas and techniques in it.

El libro en físico es mejor
Buen libro pero el defecto es que está mal posicionado el texto debo leer con la cabeza chueca y pierdo el hilo de la lectura. En Kindle me hace sentir que está incompleto.

Well-written, photographed and laid-out
Not all craft books are written well but this book on Raised Embroidery is really well done. The author deals with the practical of materials and equipment but also presents some good beginner projects to try. Raised embroidery, historically, was developed before stump work so if you are hoping to develop these skills, get this book first.

J’aime beaucoup le côté technique du livre. Ça va ...
J’aime beaucoup le côté technique du livre. Ça va beaucoup m’aider dans mon apprentissage. Pour les projets personnels, j’y ai trouvé moins d’intérêt.
