Having a minivan is great for road trips. However, when your car can hold 7-8 people, everyone will expect to ride with you. Having company on long drives is great but this results in less trunk space for luggage and everything else you might need to bring for the kids. In anticipation of the upcoming winter, we decided to get external storage for the top of the van. I initially looked at other options including a bag for the roof rack vs a small carrying compartment that attaches to the trailer hitch. We opted for a hardshell container for the top of the van. Pros: - Durability. The container is made of a very durable and sturdy plastic. The design on top has the classic carbon fiber pattern but it is not carbon fiber. Being made of plastic instead of metal increases durability while decreasing weight which makes it the exact item I was looking for. - Design. The container has hinges at the front and back making it very easy to open and close. there is a latch toward the front to maintain a tight closer (but no latch at the back). The locking mechanism works well and comes with 2 keys. If the item is installed facing forward, the lock will be on the passenger side. The top portion is one solid piece of plastic and the container is likely waterproof in case of rain. Closure along the edge is not airtight so expect the items inside to affected by changes in temperature and possibly dust as well. - Size. At first glance, it does not appear to fit a large suitcase but upon testing it, the largest suitcase I own fits fine with plenty of room for additional items (will not fit 2 large suitcases side-be-side). It would be great to store camping items such as sleeping bags and tent. - Assembly. The instructions are terrible but luckily installation is straight forward. Installation packets and screws are included. The container has several indentations inside to help guide the installation brackets based on the distance of your crossbars (see pictures). Cons: - Carbon Fiber design. This is a personal preference. I picked this for reasons above but I wasn't crazy about the carbon fiber design when it's not actually made of carbon fiber. - Lock. As with every item that has a lock, you should make sure the lock is tight after locking before leaving your items. I found that sometimes when the lid is not closed tightly, the lock still turns but the locking mechanism was not engaged and the lid opens easily. To avoid this, make sure to close the lid tight and attempt to open after you locked it. I am looking forward to this winter now that we have plenty of space for snow gear, snowboard and sleds. Of course, when placing on top of higher cars like minivans and SUVs, avoid parking structures and pay close attention to your overhead clearance.

This is very cheaply made!! I requested a refund and they asked for videos and i sent videos but no response! The lock didn’t work after only driving about 300 miles with it. It also beds easy and doesn’t seal well. Definitely NOT worth how much you pay for!!

A bit flimsy. Mounting is kind of a pain. Does what it needs to do though.

I got this when we are going for the road trip. With two babies and all kids equipments. Like stroller and pack & play, our truck is always overloaded. So we got this for extra space in the car when we go for a road trip, more stroage space. It was easy to put on the top of card and material is hard so it won’t easily break. I would recommend anyone whom has big family and like the road trip to get one this. Make packing easier.

Very difficult to install as you can’t reach to screw the side which doesn’t open. I had to twist and turn to reach so I can mount it on my SUV. It would have been simpler to mount if I could open the cargo on both the sides. Not so happy because it is too difficult to mount and in mount.

Light Weight box very easy to put it on top of your Car or down, waterproof safe and Secure, good box for your money, definitely get one if you don’t want to put anything inside a car or I will maximize your cargo space.

Fit great, great product

Was excited to get and use this over the weekend. But one of the locks would gone unlocked about every 45 to 60 minutes of driving. Just got lucky I had planned to stop an hour into the drive to make sure it everything was fine and I mounted it correctly. Holds a decent amount of camping gear and is light enough to mount and in mount by myself, I am retired. Only issue is when we tried to return it found out I had to pay return shipping charges. With box and oversized shipping the cheapest I could find was over $100. So I told them to forget the return and I will jury rig something. After checking the company site and goggle reviews found out the locking system is the major complaint. Just be prepared to buy a strap to keep the thing from flying apart.
