If you are thinking of buying these, you may already have read one or more of the individual books. Anyway, I will not write a review of the story: suffice to say I love all the books and have read them several times despite my ‘mature’ years. I admire the author’s characterization, his description of landscape, and his creation of a realistic world. The plots are a little simple, as you might expect from YA books: peril, drama, last minute success. That’s fine, it has a great tradition.Characters are the books’ strength, and I love the fact that many key characters in ‘traditionally’ masculine roles (soldiers, group leaders, doctors, and of course the heroes) are female. There is no hint of this being a gimmick; there are plenty of admirable male characters, but Garth simply does not accept gender stereotypes. Excellent!My main reason for the review is this edition: the price is very good, so I expected a relatively low quality paper or printing. Not at all: the paper is smooth and fine, the print is elegant, and the overall presentation is beautiful. They come in a nice (admittedly quite delicate) cardboard slip case as well. I bought these as a present, so I am very pleased!Highly recommended!

Absolutely love Garth Nix and this series is a fantastic read.
