Very strong vortex. Mixes the solution very fast and effectively even those hard-to-mix solutions.
I must say, at first I really didn't like it but it slowly grew on me. The vortex is extremely powerful. It will definitely mix your solution so you don't have to worry about that. You have to make sure that you place this vortex on a flat surface. This is very important because since the vortex is very strong, and if the surface is uneven, the intensity of the shaking will cause the vortex to move on its own. I had to move it to another part of my lab where the counter was even. Second, at first, the user interface bothered me because once you turn it on, you cannot go directly to vortex your sample. Nothing will happen if you do this. You have to maneauver to settings and make sure to press the "touch/cont" button to begin the process in comparison to other vortexes that you just plug it in, turn it on and go directly to mix your solution. At first I didn't like this but I wasn't going to lower its star rating for this trivial manner, especially when I have used it a lot for experiments with success. It really has grown on me. Have been using it since April 2024. Lastly, I really love the time counter that it has (at least for the LED version). When you place the tube, it shows you how long you are vortexing and keeps track of the time. This is perfect for protocols, replication and teaching students for those very finicky solutions that are very hard to mix. One last tip: When you place the tube on the vortex mat, make sure you firmly apply pressure down because this particular vortex will not start unless you apply a certain type of strong pressure (this is if your using the "touch" option. As it name states, it will only start when you touch the tube surface mat. I also love that it brings different types of vortex mats for different volumes of tubes. I have it use so far for some hard-to-mix solutions on 1.5ml eppendorf tubes. Very well made vortex.

Works as intended
I have used both the touch and continuous modes and both seems to do the job. Could use better vibration dampening on the bottom, as it there is quite a bit of 'walking'.

4.5 stars
My frame of reference is quite limited on lab equipment in general, but it's gaining with time. Having a basic lab capacity along with having a shop and studio allows me to explore all sorts of things at home that I'd have to do on campus otherwise. There's always room for improvement in all equipment, but I'm confident this is as good as any comparable unit.

Great for hobby paints
I chose this item to use for mixing bottles of hobby paints because I'd seen a number of 3D printed adapters for vortex mixers, or projects to make paint mixers that were basically imitation vortex mixers. I really, really am glad I had the opportunity to add this tool to my hobby desk, because at my age shaking paint by hand goes from boring to painful pretty quickly and then means I don't paint because my hands and wrists hurt. Anyway, I've included a video or mixing a couple different bottle types using the included standard head. It does vibrate your hand quite a bit, so I'll probably 3D print an adapter just because some bottles need more time if they've settled a lot. It's also worth picking up some stainless steel ball bearings to drop in bottles of thicker paint like metallics. (This also helps if you're still shaking them manually.) In the video I'm using the Touch setting, which works well for short, quick mixes of more liquid paint. As I was testing on older, thickened paints I found that Continuous mode was easier for longer periods of time because I could shift my grip a bit and not have the mixer stop. Again - I'm not sure the vibration is something you want to subject your hands and wrists to for longer periods. I will say that it's not a perfect process, you need to check to see if the paint has begun to clump on the bottom of the bottle, break that up if it has, and mix for longer. Some of my paints are pretty old, and I'm always trying to reconstitute them enough to avoid buying new. I spent some time with this mixer and by using distilled water, a slow dry extender, a ball bearing, and blending with a palette knife - brought back a bottle of paint that was dried to a thick paste. Without this mixer to do the shaking, I would have just tossed it. Overall, now that I have experienced the benefits, I would recommended it to any painter who mixes bottles regularly, and definitely feel the mixer's value is worth the price.
