A must have for model railroad and diorama scenery
I have used this to create terrain on my model railroad layouts and dioramas for years. If you need to build up hills, create rough ground, or add general landscape texture, Celluclay is a great product for that. It's easy to work with. You just mix the dry pulp with water until you get a consistency you like. I aim for something like thick oatmeal. It's simple to apply and shape, you can smooth it using your fingers with a bit of water, you can apply texture once it start drying a bit using a wad of paper, cloth or anything else you can think of. Once it dries, it's as hard as a rock, creating a very durable scenery base that takes paint very well. Cleanup is a breeze with just water, but it is a bit dusty when you start mixing it up so I always try to use “slow” movements taking it out of the bag and mixing it. NOTE! make sure that what ever tool you use to get it out of the bag that it is bone dry, you don’t want any moisture in the bag. I also typically store it in a larger plastic container to keep the moisture out. For creating terrain it is probably the most cost-effective product out there.

pleasantly surprised with how fun/easy this was to work with
I took a risk and bought CelluClay for the first time after reading the reviews. I wanted something to make a pumpkinrot scarecrow for Halloween this year. I included pictures of my first attempt ever using the clay and am quite optimistic for future projects. Obviously I'm not a professional, but this stuff was easy to use and I'd recommend it for anyone trying out papier mache clay for the first time! The first picture is right after my clay dried. In the sunny desert, it took less than 24 hours to harden. I was ready to paint it the next day. I used a flat black spray paint (pic #2) and then dry brushed it with white (pic #3). I LOVE dry brushing with the Celluclay texture. It was easy and effective. I contemplated leaving it black and white. Pic #4 is after dry brushing with brown, green, yellow, and orange. I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed dry brushing this. The clay didn't suck the water out of the brush, it was a great surface to paint. The ingredients are basic, nothing toxic to worry about so you can get your hands dirty. And also, small details are harder to make, but for the most part it was super easy to work with and kept its shape. I did take everyone's advice and mixed this outside! Things I learned for my next project: -make sure you cover the WHOLE surface with the clay, or you'll have rough bumpy spots along with the smooth newspaper mache parts. -it does shrink (just a tiny bit) so make sure you keep that in mind while sculpting.

versatile art material
Celluclay is useful art/craft item for both artists and amateurs- such as young children. Our grandchildren ages 3 and 10 sit together and create their sculptures. They learn patience as they wait for the clay to dry and then anticipate painting their art work.

Fun to use! Easy for students.
I love this paper clay product. It's easy to mix and fun to use. I appreciate that you can attach fresh clay to the dried project. This comes in handy when you only have one class per week and not a lot of class time together! My reason for giving is 4 out of 5 stars is just for value. I thought the clay would go a lot farther, but ended up having to buy more halfway through the project.

Gets the Job Done !!!
That's a very good product ! I decided to do a frame for a small mirror , I used cardboard as the frame and I build up on that with the paper mache to give it shape and volume. It definitely needs a trial and error time , therefore create small batches until you figure it out. My first batch was too moist as I covered half of my mirror , my second batch was just perfect , and the difference happened on the drying time. Half of it was still wet , and the other half dried way faster. I mixed glue with it , after I did the paper mache/water mix , then I added the glue , mixed for a bit more and then applied to my project. That will keep the mix solid , as most of the crafting videos I've seen on youtube do that ! I will buy again for sure after I finish it. And of course a little goes a long way !

having tons of fun
This is my second purchase of the 24 lb box size. I discovered Celluclay while searching for a kiln to make clay figurines as a hobby project. I was curious about this paper pulp, so I bought a 5 lb bag at my local craft store - and fell in love with this recycled pulverized paper. After weighing the benefits of free sun dried figurines vs expensive kiln dried clay figurines (plus glazes) It was a no-brainer choice. I have been enjoying creating fun heirlooms for my children, friends and family with Celluclay . It is easy to work with, dries hard as a rock and is easy to paint with acrylics. The gray celluclay is a bit creamier in texture than the white but both are great products either way. I have been posting my creations for the world to see on my facebook page - if Amazon lets you see them - enjoy - and give this stuff a try yourself. Fun for warm summer outdoor craft projects especially. [...]

Convenient for rough work
This is an edited review. In my original post, I described it like this: "a super convenient, effective, and reasonably priced mache mix. It's a little dusty when you prepare it, so probably not for the youngest hands; and it's probably worth experimenting with applications and drying time, to make sure things don't get moldy. But, all in, a welcome addition to the arts and craft shelf!" After trying it in fine detail molds, however, I found it clunky - it stays wet much too long, and it doesn't capture details. As a comparison, I'm finding Amaco's Sculptamold to be a much superior medium, drying nice and hard, and able to keep the details. But if you're simply needing some pulp to slap on without any precision, the CelluClay is conventient.

I use this stuff for everything. Easy to use, great for modelling and moulding. Takes a while to dry is the only downside, but just be patient and you'll have great results.

Grandson loved it but I did not get a chance to build with him. Only thing I'd say is the shipping sticker was stuck directly onto the box I could not get all glue off of box
