Classics Are Becoming Affordable
This is a great collection of Faron Young's first eight Capitol albums. A similar set put out by Jasmine records goes for $6.00 more than this collection and only has 4 of these 8 early albums (See my review of "Live Fast, Love Hard Die Young-The early album collection). You can't beat this price -95 recordings for under $13.00. This is due to the fact that in Europe recordings pass into the public domain after 50 years and this is an import. Some drawbacks include the fact that there are no liner notes or writer credits. Also three of the albums which were originally issued in real stereo are reproduced here in mono. But at this price who cares! The most important thing is the music and there is plenty of that. Now for the individual albums:1. "Sweethearts Or Strangers". A very traditional collection which contains standards and original material. "I'm A Poor Boy" is funny as hell while "You Call Everybody Darling" really swings.2. "The Object Of My Affection". This is a collection of POP standards from the 30s and 40s. I particularly like "Who Wouldn't Love You" and "It All Depends On You". The arrangements are early Nashville sound and the choruses are a bit over worked. But Faron does put new life into these old chestnuts.3. "This Is Faron Young". A collection of early Capitol singles including "I Got Five Dollars And It's Saturday Night", a Ted Daffan song which Faron makes his own.4. "My Garden Of Prayer". This is Faron's only sacred LP. He is in fine voice but the arrangements are a little monotonous. I wish that they would have included material from his sacred EP like "He Was There" and "How Long Has It Been". But again we do have 95 cuts in the box set so I really shouldn't complain.5. Talk About Hits". This is a collection of country standards from the early 50s. I particularly like the version of "Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy".6. "Earon Young Sings The Best Of Faron Young". A collection of singles from 1958 to 1960 including his biggest seller "Alone With You".7. "Hello Walls". Faron discovers Willie Nelson! "Believing It Yourself" is a very moving track.8. "The Young Approach. The album contains a re-recording of "Goin' Steady", a song which he was to record 3 times. On tracks like "A Moment Isn't Very Long" he sounds a little too much like Willie Nelson.Despite the drawbacks mentioned, if you, like I, are a rabid Faron Young fan this set is a must. On the original liner notes to "Sweethearts or Strangers', the author states "...if you like country music, you like Faron Young. It's as simple as that" How true!

Faron Young
A great Country & Western artist, this CD set allows you to hear many of his early works, that may have been forgotten. He had a very smooth voice and could sing any type of song, which he proves by covering many songs by other artists. His version of "Sweet Dreams" is possibly one of the best country songs of all time. If you are looking for an introuduction to great Country music, this is a great place to start. For the price, you get classic Country by a legend.

Faron Young older songs
I am a big fan of Faron Young. Of course I like all country western older cds. He is one of my all time favorites along with Conway Twitty and George Jones. The cds were packaged well and were not damaged.Vivian Worrell

Great Music for a really low price
I like Faron Young's music and bought this just to broaden my inventory. For the amazing low price, I just figured how could I go wrong. This is an absolutley great buy in classic country music. Faron was a great singer and most of his work is in this little box set. If you like old time country music, this is a must have for your listening enjoyment.

wow...
i have to say this is probably the most bang i've ever gotten for my buck in music... it's a fantastic collection of faron young's early work, and it's amazing that he doesn't get mentioned more often in the same sentence with other country greats. you will not be disappointed in this compilation, and i can't recommend it highly enough.

... since I listened to Faron Young but I was disappointed in that all the song sounded about the same ...
It had been a long time since I listened to Faron Young but I was disappointed in that all the song sounded about the same - and I thought it weird to hear him singing about his "mommie & daddy".

Great value. Great sound quality
These are early original albums remastered onto 4 CDs. Young is an perhaps and under-rated an under-appreciated country singer who could sing most types of country music form honky tonk, to Bakersfield, to rock n' roll to smooth ballads with style. I suppose if you like Marty Robbins, you should like Faron Young. He is a stylist. No recording details is the downside of this collection but the sound quality is superb. If you like country music; some Faron Young is essential for your collection. May be a greatest hits would be best for an overview but then you might want to expand your collection and this collection is the way to do it. This is very good and very good value.

Not Just 4 in the Morning!!!!!!
i have these albums, the original record albums, it took me years of searching to collect all the output of " the Sheriff", then bear family came along with their compilation box set that was fantastic...i have been a Faron Young fan since finding the 78rpm version of sweetdreams in an uncles record collection in the 70's....this collection is excellent, the sound quality is suberb...if you don't want to spend £50+ on the bear family collection and want to hear Faron at his best...then get this collection,, i can't stop playing it!!!!!...you won't be disappointed...Faron took a song and made it his own...his version of sweet dreams is one of the best...same as his version of Willie Nelsons.."Hello Walls"...but also every song he sang was branded with his unique style......

Check out early Faron Young
Probably best known in the UK for It's Four In The Morning, but there is so much more to Faron Young and this collection of earlier work proves it. And it comes at bargain price - grab it while you can.
