Mystery potency: non-standard units RESOLVED
Updated review to 5 stars: VN has real time chat with prompt service, and solved the mystery of units dosed for me. The equivalencies are: HUT= 6.5 USP, DU = 48, FIP = 1. FIP is Fédération International Pharmaceutique, HUT is Hemoglobin units, and DU is Dobson Units. My Google-Fu is not agile, apparently, and could not ferret this info. Math required, but that part is easy. Vegan means no worries about prions that you could conceivably get from animal sourced products. (There is one isolated, documented case in the scientific literature, NOT this product)Former review: Pancreatic enzymes are dosed by USP IU (international units). This is how you know how much you are taking. What are HUT, DU and FIT units? Nothing about this in the product description. They may be quality ingredients, lab tested, environmentally packaged… but I have no idea if they are the potency I need. It’s just trial…and error, which could mean a LOT of physical discomfort for me. I’m sorry I didn’t see this BEFORE I ordered. I wouldn’t recommend these without knowing their strength as compared to your prescription. (Hemoglobin Unit Tyrosine, or Fungi Lipase International = how many USPs? What is a DU? Is it Diagnostic Unit? Why doesn’t it qualify for USP certification of potency? Why isn’t this discussed in product description? I could’ve avoided the error of ordering non-returnable merchandise).

These may have helped.
Anecdotal, yes. All I know if that my A1C registered 8.7 and I was freaked out. I adjusted the metformin and tried these two a day before meals after reading an NIH white paper on not this product, but these enzymes in general as relates to diabetes management. My next A1C check 3 months later was 5.9.So if only out of superstition, I'm going to keep taking them.

Compares to Creon
Dr. Gave me a prescription for Creon and the cost for 30 pills was over $300 even with great insurance. Then he wanted me to take 5-6 a day. Really? I called pharmacist and she suggested only Vegan Pancreatic Enzymes. They seem to work good however, price went up by $10 a bottle in a short period of time.

Worked well enough that don’t need Creon or Zenpep at $14,000 a year.
Working ok and a whole lot cheaper.

Watch what you order.
I did not know they were vegan. I meant to order the other ones 1000mg, etc. I have to have the more powerful one.

Quality Vegan Enzyme!
This is a review for Vital Nutrients Vegan Pancreatic Enzymes .I use digestive enzymes at practically every meal. They have always helped my digestive system preventing indigestion, gas and or bloat. There are many kinds of digestive enzymes for many different digestive issues and for different diets and foods that some of us just cannot break down to digest. This Vegan Pancreatic Enzyme has an enzyme for each of the different types of foods we eat. For example, these are the ingredients in this enzyme:Protease breaks down proteinsAmylase breaks down carbs and sugarsLipase breaks down fats,Hypromellose functions helps delay the release of a medicinal compound into the digestive tractMCT: Recent research has also suggested that MCTs may improve the gut microbiome. This seems to cover all the basis. I tried it at my largest meal and it worked for me. It's really nice to relax after a meal and not feel uncomfortable because you are bloated.Vital Nutrients is a supplement company that I have been aware of and purchased from before. They have been around for 30 years!! They are an American company and their manufacturing facility is in Connecticut. From the information I gleaned off their website (which wasn't much) I learned that their facility is cGMP. They do their lab testing in house but it is very very thorough. The only issue I have is that I wish Vital Nutrients would tell us more about themselves and their story.Otherwise, I do recommend this digestive enzyme supplement. It really a good quality supplement and very thoroughly tested.
