Mains voltage controller (AC)
Excellent product. No fiddling about. Just plug the item in. I have used this and similar for some years without problem.Useful for controlling fan speeds, small motors and so on.

I used this with a random orbital sander. To use for buffing (lower speed).
Just wanted speed control over orbital sanders, and random orbital sanders, to use for gentler buffing/polishing off of headlamp oxide etc..used with maguiar’s compound, and this Black & Decker, as it doesn’t have a speed control https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PVXWTPB?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsHowever, random orbital is gentler than ‘proper’ simple spinning orbital sander anyway, so maybe I was over-cautious. But, any electrical device up to the power rating of this unit, is usable with it.It’s most useful then, with a situation where you find the right setting and leave it there. I put a sliver of white sticky label, to act as a position arrow, on the dial.Perfectly decent unit, if you want robustness, just wrap it in duck tape or something, but be aware, it may need to expel heat at some point. It does what you expect, slows down electrical devices or reduces them from full power - I cannot speak for use as a light dimmer, because modern LED lamps etc, require the voltage stays the same I think, and need correctly dimmed or they flicker, become unpleasant?Anyway, good unit, works well limiting the Black & Decker random orbital sander down to sensible speeds for plastic surface buffing with suitable compound or even T-cut if you’re stuck (it’s a bit slow and wet/sloppy is the issue there, messy). Take care all.

works ok but makes fan buzz
Not sure how this works but it makes the fan motor buzz quite loudly. Works ok controlling speed. Using a power meter to check it seems to change the power factor rather than a straight rheostat. Doesn't get hot during use thankfully, but I would hesitate to leave on when not nearby or overnight. By the way, the manual states to use only on fans with no variable speed control. Doesn't have a "CE" safety label.

Simple design, but does what it is supposed too.
Mine arrived in a clearly used condition and seemed faulty where by the bottom 2 wholes were not opening when the top pin hole was pressed so I had to sort of jam it open whilst opening the other side but all in all it does it's job and alters my fan speed so not to fussed about slight fault.UPDATE!!! I purchased 3 more on the basis they are a great little device the further 3 were all working perfectly. I am also a big "fan" and would also go as far as to say they are just "fan-tastic" ☺️

Has Limited Application, At Best
There's a lot of mixed reviews for this product, and I don't doubt that this product has its place in certain applications, but I'm throwing my hat into the "do not buy" ringFor context, I recently started using a Russell Hobbs RHPDF1221 12" desk fan to replace the previous fan that I was using as a sleep-aid, and even on the lowest speed setting, it's very loud. So I looked into buying something to limit the power going into the fan to slow the motor down and make it more bearable to sleep with, and this seemed like the product to use.I was incorrect. In this specific setup, the fan makes very concerning buzzing noises as soon as you drop the speed below max, which only get worse as you further drop the speed, and the extra noise generated by the motor completely offsets the quieter airflow that comes as a result of slowing the motor down. This made the product entirely useless for me.I tried just setting the fan to its max speed option and using this product to get the desired speed, but that made even worse noises than setting the fan on low and using this product, and the middle speed setting sounded like it was actively breaking the motor.I've avoided giving this product 1 star because it does say in the description that it's not supposed to be used on fans with existing speed controls, but there are a lot of reviews floating around saying that it does work with fans that have speed control already, and I wanted to let folks know that it might not work for them either

Works perfectly 👌
Works exactly as needed cool little thing I'm a big fan 😆

Works enough
Dose exactly what it says carnt conplain for the price, Only the top 50% of the dial will controle the fan as below that point it turns off the fan but a weaker fan would probably use the whole dial
