Avoid at all costs!
I purchased this Elements digging spade as advertised by Neill Tools on Amazon-Spear and Jackson being a reliable and reputable maker of quality tools. But I was slightly confused when my order arrived. The spade was not quite the one that I had ordered. I say 'not quite' because although the spade that arrived had the heat treated carbon steel head of the Elements digging spade, it had the wooden handle and shaft of the Traditional digging spade by Spear and Jackson. I ordered this Elements spade by Spear and Jackson in particular because of the cushioned grip on the handle. I most definitely didn't order the Traditional wooden handled Spear and Jackson spade, because of the increased likelihood of it causing nasty blisters on my hands after doing alot of digging. I have just taken on a large overgrown allotment which will take great deal of hard work and sweat to dig over, which was my reason for buying a good quality spade with a cushioned grip on its handle in the first place. The spade that arrived was a bizarre hybrid of the two spades-the Traditional and the Elements. Not only that, it was damaged on the shaft. I did wonder if the reason why the spade was being sold at such a reduced price, is because it was a factory second or a cheap 'knock off'. If this is the case the company is in breach of the Trade Descriptions act, for selling a product that is completely different to the one pictured in their advertisement.I sent an email to the company to complain as soon as I unpacked the spade. To my surprise the company actually telephoned me later that same day. They offered me a full refund including the postage cost, and told me to keep the (bizarre) spade-it was not worth their while or cost for me to send it back to them. They also said they couldn't understand how such a strange mistake had occurred and that they would fully investigate the matter (!!) I thought that would be the end of the matter, and that I would receive the refund back to my payment method within the time frame stated by the person I spoke to on the telephone-I was told three to five working days. I also had emails sent to me by Neill Tools confirming that my money had been refunded. I checked my payment method after five days to check if my money had been refunded, it had not. Two weeks later…..still no refund. I sent a further email to Neill Tools, and another to Amazon to complain and to take advantage of Amazon's money back guarantee. Amazon gave me my full refund within a few days. I wouldn't give Neill Tools or this product any stars at all if Amazon's system would allow it. I did get my money back, and got to keep this strange spade, although it is highly unlikely that I will ever use it. I will instead have to look for a better quality spade with a cushioned handle from a more reliable and trustworthy company- to make sure that I receive the spade that I ordered in the first place.
