A good alternative to the ortofon 5E stylus?
I have a pro-ject turntable that came with an ortofon 5E stylus and when that one wore out I replaced it with the same thing and at €60 including shipping I believe that was far too expensive. This time I said I'd try the Pro- S and it's actually a far better stylus for my turntable and half the price to boot so needless to say I'm delighted. I've never heard my records sound so good and I'm hearing instruments and sound quality that I've never heard from these records either on vinyl or cd. I appreciate that everyone's setup is different but if you have a pro-ject that came with the 5E then the pro-s might be worth a try

If you can spare the extra £20 get the 5e!
The sound quality is a lot worse than the 5e, but it's good for the cost. If you can spare the extra £20 get a 5e if not this will do

Vinyl Stylus
I bought this to replace a Stock Stylus on a DN 168 E Cartridge which is the original one that came with the Dual CS505-4 Audiophile Concept version LP player, who's original stylus this is replacing. To remove the stylus just pull off the one that is being replaced and then push this one on, it's that simple. I have played some records and this stylus has more detail than the one it replaced. Looking at the Ortofon booklet that comes with the Stylus though it places this stylus under the 'DJ Styli' section for tracking force guides and it is recommended that this use a tracking force of 4g. It would appear then that this stylus is more for that function and the recommendations for it's styli for Hi-Fi is obviously a lot lower, typically 1.25 - 1.50g. But my LP's sound better with this stylus so I'm not really bothered about that, I mainly just wanted to see if replacing the current stylus would be a good choice and it has been. So my next Stylus with be an Ortofon 10 or 20. Maybe I'll play with the weight and tracking force on this one a little bit see if it can sing a bit more. But right now I'm just enjoying listening to the extra detail in my vinyl this is bringing out.

Worth replacing you’re old ones with one of these allday long !
Worth buying if need a replacement I’m glad I did most probably will replace my other which has nothing rong with it , this pro s is so much better sturdy compared to a reloop ortofon I have which the stylus are compatible as far as I know , it has instructions with the Stylus tracking weight on to make life a bit easier if you don’t have scales I mean which are pretty cheap to buy I’ve seen .

Ortofon pro - stylus for concorde cartidge .
Have'nt replaced the other stylus yet with this new one but the packing it came with is exquissette, so much so I'm reluctant to take it out of it's packing but I known because of ortofon's reputation, and my experience of their products I know I will be perfectly happy with it's performance. Although I have a rega3 this will be used for my stanton T.120 which I also use with my hi - fi system, I love this deck because of the battleship build and quality and you would be somewhat surprised at the quality it produces with this cartridge.ortofon

My story, yes, there is one. I inherited a nice Technics turntable from a friend several years ago. At the time, I didn't really take notice of the cartridge and stylus, it just worked. The turntable just worked, yay. Damaged the existing stylus in a move, found it was a Ortofon 20, $200 bucks to replace it. Being short of funds, I opted for the Pro S, and it does the job. My hearing isn't the best, so I can't hear the subtleties between a $200 stylus and a $30 stylus. Maybe I could side by side. Anyway, this stylus does the job, I'm happy with it, and can listen to my albums. if only I'd invested in diamonds, then I wouldn't see $200 as a issue. What most impressed me is the speed by which Amazon got the shipment to me. Faster than advertised. If only other unnamed companies, like a certain G company, would get a frigging clue about the fact that customer happiness is directly proportionate to the speed by which packages are delivered. It ain't rocket science. Thanks Ortofon for making a decent stylus and thanks Amazon for providing stellar service.
