Great! Lovely Exercise Book!
Kumon Reading 1 is a homework book that is suitable for children who are studying the KS1 curriculum to practise phonics and reading comprehensions. I found its no stress "step-by-step" slowly but firmly approach helps my sons, who doesn't like writing much, to improve his skills. The attractive illustrations, big letter font and colourful pages makes doing homework less painful. I found this a good introduction workbook. The book has 36 exercises. The first half of the book (exercise 1-26) covers short vowels, consonants combinations, long vowels and basic vocabulary. Then from Exercise 27 onwards, the book deals with introduction reading comprehensions. Each reading comprehensions is about 5-10 short sentances(less than 80 words). The answers required for the Reading comprehensions were in sequencing (which picture happened first 1-5), or True/ False, or "fill-in-the-blank" sentences style with key answers blank out, and the rest of sentences already printed. For example:Question: Is the character a boy or a girl?Answer: The character is a _____. (The child needs to write the actual answer: boy.)I feel that this makes learning process less stressful for beginners as it requires writing the key part of the answers only but yet they could gain ideas of how to answer questions properly in sentence format. My son certainly benefited from it. He likes working on Kumon Reading Workbook range much better than others.

Great for summer holidays after Reception.
I am going through KUMON books with my twin daughters who are by now in Year 1. I have bought this one while they were in Reception class and we did it during summer holidays. I found this book to be very useful for reminding children what they learned during their Reception year. Number of exercises (36) is just enough to cover most of the long summer break.Another reviewer already described the exercises (very good review indeed), so I am not going to repeat this here. Just a few points-- tasks require reading words, (later the whole sentences) and also writing some letters and words.-- the difficulty seems perfect for children who just finished Reception and more or less confident with their phonics.-- we did one page each day and by the end the progress was quite obvious -- they definitely moved from reading words to comprehending whole sentencing.Overall I would strongly recommend this book to everyone with Reception/Year 1 age children.

Love kumon buy buy buy :)
Love kumon I studied kumon as a kid and now my daughter and she finds these so helpful in improving on what she already knows. Some questions can be repetitive however in life much of what we do is repetitive and a lot of progress can be based on memory which I believe where this system stems from so I don't mind it, it also helps in ammending any mistakes my daughter would make.

Fair product by Kumon
This book was a good insight to simple works, and matching rhyming sounds. It allows the child to take control and practice their writing too.A fair book, for the price.

Great for new readers
Great for children learning 3 letter words with easy to trace words and match rhyming words. My 4 year old enjoys this book a lot but in small doses as it's quite repetitive so it gets s bit boring
