Q: Is this taken from pure graphite; ie. Does it still have its original magnetic properties?

The last time I looked graphite is never magnetic . . .

Q: Is this powder very black or just grey as some are complaining about?

Graphite comes usually in various shades of grey and this powder is no exception. I believe Cretacolor does produce a charcoal powder as well which comes closer to a real black, but don’t forget, a lot depends on the paper one uses: the smoother the paper the less the powder sticks, thus resulting in a lighter tone. Sampling the powder on various paper (samples) before starting a big drawing might therefore be a good idea!

Q: Can it be mixed with gum arabic medium

I’ve not tried that myself but It could be great finding out..
