Edith Piaf: Le Concert Ideal/Piaf - The Documentary [DVD]

I'm a massive fan of Piaf, and each time I visit Paris I eat my lunch in Pere Lachaise, after putting flowers on her grave. There are always fresh bouquets there, so she still has an impact, even in these days of Rap, Hip Hop, and Rock 'n Roll. Perhaps the fairly recent film brought a new and younger generation of fans. There are two discs here, one being concert footage across the years, some being sung in English, and the other being a documentary, that although sketching over the drink and drug use of her later years, gives you a pretty honest account of her life, by sourcing many of the people, famous and not so famous, who knew her. Of course you must remember that the Little Sparrow has had as much mythology created around her as Bob Dylan, (No comparison intended here) but this DVD gets closer to the truth as any of the many books written about her. If you have an ounce of romance in your soul, you'll enjoy this. I find myself replaying the concert disc over and over.

This wonderful 2 DVD set tells the story of the French female star who became known as the Little Sparrow. Archive footage and interviews give you a personal insight into the life of Edith Piaf. The second DVD is a collection of her performances joined together to form the perfect concert. This is a must for anyone who loves Piaf. Forget the film "La Vie En Rose", enjoy the real thing. An interesting documentary of this legend's life.The quality of the photography and sound could have done with a bit of enhancement.

I saw some of this Edith Piaf concert compilation on TV, and was very glad to find it on Amazon. It is something I can put on and enjoy whenever I want now, and I do love it. What a great DVD

I first saw these two programmes (Perfect Concert and the documentary) on TV - twice. I'm very happy to have been able to buy them at a really keen price.Fans of the era, of Piaf, or even just of France and French culture in general ought to have these in the collection.The PC contains all the 'usual' hits, but there are no doubt personal favourites of real fans missing from this collection; however, if you fall into that category, you'd have them all on CD (or vinyl!)The documentary is good, especially for those who do not know very much of Piaf's life.

Yes, this ticks all the boxes. We had an old French video of the great lady that oxidised years ago, so the DVD is a suitable replacement. The documentary is great, but it's capturing those classic performances that matters. Would recommend.

Disappointing mish mash of performances over years rather than complete concert

This DVD dispels a lot of the myths surrounding Edith Piaf, and is another of those DVD's that you can watch over and over again.

It was wonderful to see this superb singer in performance and in biography but really disappointing that the quality of the image on the performance disc was so poor. I'm no expert so perhaps the image couldn't have been further improved but the quality was poor. Still, on balance, better to have it than not to have it...blumenberg

Was soll man dazu noch sagen???? Edith Piaf ist einfach einzigartig! :D Mir hat diese DVD sehr gut gefallen also Daumen hoch!
