AQA GCSE (9–1) Chemistry Achieve Grade 8–9 Workbook (GCSE Science (9–1))

Fantastic for use of plenaries / starters / home learning for my students. I have recommended this book to my students for exam prep should they wish to purchase it. I bought both the Grade 5 and the 8/9 Workbooks - easy differentiation. Answers are included in the back. Top tips / key words / model answers and poor answers are scattered throughout. The only criticism would be that new sections don't always start a new page, so sometimes I will have to type the questions up to format them appropriately.

It is what you expect

So I used Collins grade 8-9 books for physics and bio back in 2018-19, and they were pretty good. Never used the chem one so can’t remark whether they’ve changed anything or not, but I will say that these questions aren’t the best for grade 8-9. However, they do provide tips and helpful advice in the little boxes dotted around the book. NB: if you’re looking for grade 8-9 questions but do NOT do AQA, I’d suggest don’t buying this. Having done the AQA syllabus and my sister doing Edexcel, the questions (other than the ones about atomic structure, molar substances and equilibrium) I’ve spotted subtle differences within the mark schemes - not too much of a bother for a mark or two but they can add up and potentially cost you a grade boundary. So in short, get this if you’re looking for something to boost your confidence. For those wanting hard, challenging questions, it’s best off to do some research (I’ve heard CGP are good). Some of the old spec questions from early 2000s were pretty challenging, so that might be worth a shout
