The first time I took the NCLEX-RN I studied from a book that focused on test taking strategies. I took all 265 questions and failed. I was scored a "near passing" in every category. I bought this book to study from before I took the test the second time and passed the exam in 75 questions (the minimum). It is helpful to know strategies for taking the NCLEX-RN but I credit my passing to this book. The review of each body system/med category/etc. was a great refresher from all we learned in school. The practice questions at the end of each chapter, the comprehensive test at the end of the book, and the CD that accompanies the book really tested my knowledge and showed me where to focus further studying. I HIGHLY recommend this book!!

I ordered a Kindle edition textbook once before to later discover a CD Rom was available with the printed version. I didn't miss it much, but the CD Rom that usually comes with this book is of substantial value. There may be a way to obtain it, but Amazon does not make that clear to consumers. I also don't know why the 2004 Kindle edition is being offered at the same price as the 2010 printed edition (which includes the CD Rom). There is no shipping charge on the printed edition because it is priced over $35. Personally, I will never buy just the Kindle edition of a large textbook again. The information is there, but visually it doesn't present well. The diagrams and figures in a textbook are designed to enhance the text. With a Kindle download, when there are drawings or charts, they are often too small to see clearly. You can only enlarge the image so much. The good thing about a Kindle download is being able to do a search within the text to find specific words. So as a quick reference tool, it is useful sometimes. It is also beneficial not having to lug a heavy textbook around. But for visual learning, it is not good. And for medical textbooks such as this, much is lost in the presentation of essential information.
