Kilner delivers another quality product.
Received my fermentation set from Kilner, I was happy how the jar was packaged within its box and it was delivered intact. The size is perfect for my needs ( although other sizes are available). The product looks great and all the pieces are of good quality. I have used it several times to make several batches of kimchi and both its functionality and ease of cleaning after are superb. I also thought the instructions were super helpful. Really recommend !!!!! Next I’m going to try the recipes in the booklet attached, can’t wait.

A cracked valve was quickly replaced by customer support.
This jar arrived with a cracked airlock valve, which the support line ([email protected]) was quick to replace for me. I have used the Kilner Sauerkraut fermentation system to do my first ferment, and no mold or unwanted organisms are growing - so the valve has done a good job. The sauerkraut tatses great too! I'm happy to recommend this jar to others for similar fermentations.

Great value
I wanted to make kimchi and sauerkraut and not spend to much money. This has done the job well. The water filter at the top burps the gas away pretty well although I have found the rubber lid does lift a bit at the early stages of fermentation. The weights are pretty good although could be heavier and I did purchase the wooden implement to help press everything done which whilst well made was not really necessary.

Nice jars, pity they don't come with screw lids.
All successful ferments from these jars. Originally used 4 jars full of cabbage, onion, leeks, chilli, garlic, ginger and various herbs, then after adding brine and letting them ferment for a week they reduced so I was able to pack 2 jars with the contents from the 4 jars. Very happy with the results, my only critique is I am now storing them in the fridge and would have liked to have had some screw on lids as the fermentation process has now finished and keeping the tops sealed requires me to use the air bubbles which make them very tall and therefore they reduce fridge space.

Great starter kit for home fermenting
Picked this up to make sauerkraut and kimchi at home. The jar is a good size and feels sturdy, and the airlock and weights make the whole process much easier and tidier than using random jars. Everything is simple to clean and the included leaflet gives enough basic guidance to get going. Ideal if you are curious about fermenting but do not want loads of gear.

Good product
Yeah bang on all round. Not sure where these bad reviews are coming from. Like the person who dropped the ceramic weights into the bottom and smashed it. I mean that's just user error. Mine came with a silicone lid which fits bang on and the airlock works a treat. No problems here. And as the instructions say, don't pour boiling water into it. Did you do the sciences at school? I just cleaned with warm soapy water. Simple. Well made although I have rated it down one star because of the price. It does what it says and smple to use just thought (like most things today) gets very expensive. Most of my prep for the fermentations I have done were in a brew bucket. So if I were to need another fermenter, I'd prob just use that 😂

I’m in love with this one. Such good quality! Love the weights and its finish. The jar is big enough to make sauerkraut for a long time, which I love. Had to buy one for my sister too!

I am reviewing the 5-piece fermentation set. Examining the jar, you can tell it's well made but I had a few questions so I had to contact the manufacturer who is located in England. Firstly, there is a floating cup inside the airlock, which I was confused about. The rubber bung is the stopper, and the airlock is the tube section and within it is a thinner tube. You put on the wooden lid, and then push the bung and airlock which are one piece into the hole. The floating cup sits on top of the thinner tube inside the airlock. You fill the airlock 1/2 to 3/4 to the top of the floating cup with water and then put the lid back on. There are tiny holes in the airlock lid that releases the fermentation gases. That was not in the instructions, so I thought I'd mention that. Also I didn't have enough produce to fill the jar so I placed a cabbage leaf on top of my jalapenos and then placed the stones on the cabbage leaf, because the jalapenos were floating up and around the stones. I am including a picture of that and the airlock. I just started my ferment and it's supposed to take only 5 to 7 days so I will report back after that. ****By day 4 I felt they were sufficiently fermented and put them in the fridge, in a mason jar with just a lid, but kept the cabbage leaf which now can keep them submerged without the stones. They will continue to slowly ferment since it's cold and hopefully will last me a while.****
