Another Decker Howler
Carry On Decker is again the theme to this fourth book. Decker is again morally conflicted and inconsistent with his actions. Decker gets a message from his oldest friend and fellow pathfinder that a victim of a kidnapping who our heroes were supposed to rescue, briefly surfaces after 6 years and Decker and pal decide to rectify their earlier failure out of a sense of duty/honour/guilt completely off the books without their usual back up. And this presents me with the first conundrum - how many innocent people will you kill/let die or put at fatal risk to save one person? Deckers answer to that would be; unlimited. There is supposed to be a twist towards the end, but I think most people will spot it right near the beginning, but Decker isn't as smart as the readers. This is shown as he proves to be the most captured soldier in the history of warfare. Like James Bond, Decker is soooo lucky to be captured by people who always make the mistake of not killing him right away and paying the ultimate price. He obviously has the DNA of many, many cats as he not only always lands on his feet after falling, but used a whole cat and a thirds 9 lives. He is super lucky that most people trying to shoot him were trained by the Star Wars Imperial Stormtoopers who couldn't hit a barn door from point blank.Nearly every woman wants to have sex with Decker, even those that prefer other women and those want to kill him. It is a testament to Marine training that he applies himself to these needs selflessly while still using his best Sid James impersonation to keep them dangling. The story is fast, furious, tactically nonsense with Carry On film elements thrown in alongside shoot'em up video game play and with even more typos than the previous books. But still fun to read.
